Much has changed since 1921 at Tully Building Supply except for its’ strong sense of community and loyal customers. We are the oldest continuously run family business in Tully; It was founded by John L. Schultz, an entrepreneur from Skaneateles. When John Shultz owned the business he sold locally grown produce and then became a feed mill. The close proximity to the railroad tracks made it favorable to receive produce, coal and other deliveries. In the early years the family business delivered these products to homes in the greater Tully area. Tom and Kim Dando represent the fourth generation owners of the business Tom Dando’s Grandfather, Foster Dando married Shultz’s daughter, Mabel and thus the Dando name entered the business. Tom’s father, Rodney and his wife Dorothy introduced the hardware part of the business in the 1960’s and when Tom Dando entered the business in 1970; the feed mill part of the business was phased out.
Today, Tully Building Supply has expanded to 30 full and part time employees, and provides a wide variety of hardware and building materials including kitchen cabinets, windows, doors and millwork. In addition to the Tully location, Tom and Kim acquired Alpine Building Supply in 1990. Located in Moravia, New York, this additional lumberyard allows for distribution into the southern tier of New York providing convenience and rapid service into these markets.
Tully Building Supply is always changing to meet the needs of its customers. A furniture and gift shop was opened for a short time but we found that our true strength was in building supplies. When the local Agway store closed its’ doors we started carrying Aqway products to meet the needs of the local agricultural community. In 2006 we opened the doors of TBS Construction Services. This division of Tully Building Supply will do home improvements to maintenance projects. They are a complete installed service program.
Most of our employee’s live in our locally and their feedback and support help us in serving our community in many ways. Throughout the years, Tully Building has been one of the major supporters of the Tully Central School and the Tully Free Library and well as supporting many of the local organizations.
Our strength has always been in building material and hardware but we will continue to try to meet the needs of our community where ever we can. Please remember we are large enough to serve you but small enough to care.
