I like the gym quite a bit. But the others are right, the staff don't typically acknowledge your existence when you get there or when you leave. But the equipment is nice and it's a clean gym.
Good gym at first but they can't keep their coaches, nor stick to class schedules and don't communicate well, they always have new staff who don't know anything and managers too. Cancelling membership was horrible and months after cancelling it with plenty of notice I was still charged for like 5 months after...they never refunded the money and gave the run around, I finally had to dispute the charges. I would've stuck to it cause i loved what they offered but was very discouraged that it was always new coaches and new managers who gave the run around. **HORRIBLE GYM**
Initially I wanted to try out boxing just for something different. I have had quite a few group boxing classes at this gym now with several different instructors. So far they have all been great! They have all had the balance of pushing me a little harder, but not making me feel bad if I need to take a short break. I have seen improvement in my stamina each week. The conditioning is really helpful and I have been slowly gaining better technique. I also tried a DUT class. The instructor kept the pace up and was positive and challenging!
**EDIT 11/27/18: I wrote this review about four years ago after I had been with the gym for some time and took a break for a few years when I went away for work overseas. When I returned in 2016-17, this gym had moved location again to where it is now. It's a huge gym now, in a different location, with all the people I knew who worked there loooong gone, and doesn't really resemble at all what I reviewed four years ago. I'm leaving the review up as I don't want to bash the current employees and management, and because I support group self-defense/fitness classes combined with heavy bag work, something that the western Portland area lacks at the moment. So, if you're interested and looking at joining this gym, go buy a Groupon and check them out!** I've been with this gym for years now, back when it was still under L.A. Boxing. Don't let the brand name fool you - this gym is only about self-improvement, learning something practical, and having a little fun. This isn't a gym that prides itself on being extreme Crossfit or a gym that leaves you to your own devices 24HF, here you'll be led through a well-structured, high-energy workout, learning practical fighting techniques from professionals also, the stress relief from punching bags and actually being good at it cannot be overstated. They continue to have a great group of people leading classes who know their stuff all professional fighters, friendly people who can always answer questions and joke around. No drill instructors here. No one is going to hop on your case if your knees act up and you can't do some lunges, because we're all there for the same reason. And it is challenging, for sure; each hour-long class is probably going to cost you between 800-1,000 Calories make sure you hydrate beforehand. You will lose weight. And if you are mindful of your diet, add a little weight training full selection of free weights and machines available, you will look toned and feel great. As for time, it's a very flexible system; they have a stable weekly schedule of classes online, when I feel like coming in I just check that and stop by for a class. I meant to write this review for a long time now. When I recently had an issue and spoke with the management, they've been so understanding and accommodating with a long-time customer like me that I decided not to put this off any longer. It's the perfect gym for me and I recommend it to everyone.
They aren't what they used to be. Before the new management took over, there were some great coaches and very diverse workouts, depending on which classes you went to and who was teaching at that time. The atmosphere used to be super friendly and motivating but since the move, the new management and turn overs in the trainers, I feel like a stranger in a place where I used to know everyone and no staff seem to be pursuing that inclusive environment. It's definitely not for me anymore, glad I am canceling my membership.
I cancelled my membership at the beginning of July. I was informed that the last time I would be billed was for July's membership dues. I was billed again on Aug 2 in the amount of $79. I called the gym to inquire what happened. The front desk clerk apologized for 'hitting the wrong button' and said I would receive a refund. September began with no refund, so I called the gym to inquire about the status of the refund. The clerk's reply was 'I see your refund on the list, but we don't really deal in time frames, bro". It is now Sep 28, and no refund has been credited to my account.
I've been with this gym two years stuck around when they moved us building to building were you guys are hidden we were back over by wonderland which was a better location but now that they stuffed ufc gym members with the international gym it feels a little out of place all the old coches either got let go or didn't like the new management their the UFC cage is being locked for who knows what reason and nobody's really showing up to classes no more. The coaches are great but feels like there not invested in you like I said I've been a loyal costumer for two years and now I find my self a little discouraged and a lol back and forth weather I should find a new gym or stay. Facility is great but the people that work there just sit around or use the machines on there time off nobody really shows you how to use them. Just a lil insite from my point of view hope it helps somone look for the right gym.
I love this gym! I come over form 24 hour fitness and this is my new home for sure. The gym is really clean. The people who work there and the members have a lot of respect for the gym and keep it clean. They also have some equipment that other gyms don't have and I love the music they play.
Manager Aaron is stiff, clinical, overly serious and has a white privilege type attitude. He asks and responds with a boring uninterested monotone. But will make sure to always tell you to try out the classes! He spoke rudely to me and when I stared at him for it he smiled and turned away. Even though all I have tried to do is get him to laugh or even act human. Will DEFINITELY switch gyms thanks to this robotic manager. Did I get an apology? You bet NOT! I don’t even let me get started on the female butterface trainers! These little girls. Built like stocky broccoli stare you down if they feel threatened- unless you pay them! Especially the new one with the pale skin but in the hair and ugly glasses! Ughh horrible experience working out while she’s in the gym honestly. I didn’t hire anyone to stare at me but thanks for doing it for free! She will pass less than a foot away for me won’t even say excuse me and has never, ever greeted me. But you should see the way she talks to her clients! Well more like she’s talking to her money. Guess Aaron is bad at hiring grown respectful women that are fit for a real job. Here I come 24hr!!!
I initially liked the workout. The instructors motivated me to try harder. Then the main instructors quit and were replaced by boys who thought boot camp techniques were motivating. They aren't. It just makes me mad and want to quit. I would recommend getting this fitness trainers who can use the equipment to help get people in shape.
