My name is Missie and I recently graduated from Seton Hill University with my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy.
My son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age 10. I understand how challenging life can be for kids that march to the beat of their own drum and I also know how special, wonderful and gifted our kiddos are. My hopes in creating this therapy group are to make a space for kids that do not necessarily fit traditionally prescribed treatments and therapies for high functioning kids on the Autism Spectrum. For instance, when they no longer benefit from wrap around services. This group will be an environment to talk about their diagnosis and process what that means for them, how does it affect daily living and socialization? Most of all this will be a place of understanding and focus on what is wonderful about them, how they are unique and how being on the Spectrum does not define who they are as people, it is a piece of them.
