The United Way provides one-time funding to local nonprofit agencies to address unmet human service needs and/or to develop programs that are preventative in nature. (application process)
*SUPPORT AND IMPLEMENT YEAR ROUND PROGRAMS
Coats for the Community - Collect and distribute over 2,000 donated winter coats and accessories for all ages the first Saturday in October at First Lutheran Church. Co-sponsored with Paul Bunyan Broadcasting’s KZY 95.5, KB101, Z99 and KBUN.
Earned Income/Child Tax Credit Outreach - To help create financial stability for those in need, the United Way of Bemidji Area distributes information throughout the community to build awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit and promoted local free tax preparation sites.
Holiday Gifts for Kids - Collect and distribute donated toys, school supplies, family games, and books around the holiday season for children up to age 16. Co-sponsored with RP Broadcasting’s 98.3 and Mix 103.7. Last
December, 1100 children in the Bemidji community had a brighter holiday season thanks to this program.
National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive - An annual national event conducted locally by the Bemidji Area Letter Carriers. This year 5,500 pounds of food was collected for the Bemidji Community Food Shelf.
Senior Clean-Up Day - Coordinate teams of volunteers to help seniors with outdoor activities to prepare for winter. Last year, 400 volunteers helped over 90 seniors. Co-sponsored with: Adult Day Services, Boys & Girls Club of the Bemidji Area, Community Resource Connections, the Disability Linkage Line, Bemidji Kinship North, and Northwoods Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers.
Someone Special Volunteer Program - Complimentary recognition program to recognize outstanding Bemidji area volunteers, Co-sponsored with KB101 Radio, Ken K. Thompson Jewelry, and the Bemidji Pioneer.
“Inspire By Example” Volunteer Recognition Program - A volunteer recognition program held annually during National Volunteer Week that recognizes a Bemidji area Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer Youth of the Year, Volunteer Family of the Year, Volunteer Group of the Year and Lifetime Achievement in Volunteerism. Co-sponsored with Bemidji Volunteer Directors.
Week of Caring - A national United Way program adopted locally that connects volunteers to needed community projects, and engages and educates volunteers along the way.
