Keeping the peace on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus since 1911. Welcome to the official Facebook page of the U. of I. Police.
With a population of more than 53,000 students, faculty and staff, the University of Illinois is a city within a city. Like other local police agencies, our department works to prevent and respond to criminal activity and emergencies. However, the University of Illinois Police Department has the additional responsibility to promote a safe and secure environment where education, research and public service can flourish.
Our department operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. We provide patrol, investigation, specialized and emergency response, as well as crime prevention and educational services. We enjoy a strong working relationship with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Our guiding philosophy is that of community policing — building relationships between the police and community allows the department to successfully address the issues of crime and improve quality of life.
In 2012, the University of Illinois Police Department became the first ILEAP-accredited campus police department. This accreditation provides a promise to our community that we meet certain law enforcement standards to serve them well.
