This is simply a lovely and quiet delightful place. The view of the cedar River below is just outstanding and close by you will see Mount trashmore. Haha. But it's a great place not hardly ever crowded. I highly recommend it.
Park is looking better now with some new trees coming in now. Still ALOT of dead trees from the direcho. Which i think the city should just leave be as the clear cutting method being used everywhere else Leaves the landscape looking awfully boring and all the owls need new homes anyways It looks cool with all the trees that got pushed Down in same direction like a huge explosion had happened. Just an Erie reminder of mother nature can do unexpectedly.
Have thrown a few parties in their pavilion at lower Van Vechten and played co-ed softball in their diamonds, always a good experience and such a beautiful view.
It's a good quiet location to bring ur dog and family
Good place to watch sunsets or sunrises
Sad for the VanVechten family to be the namesake of such a poorly maintained green space. The city has neglected+ abused half this location by allowing the pavilion to deteriorate to junk;and now uses it for a Dump. Often I've wanted to picnic with kids+family closer to home. The excuses I've heard for it's locked gate are ridiculous+ they could be said about anywhere in town or out. VanVechten's would be so ashamed of this "park"+ the horrible+shameful heap it's become. Tho' the playground equipment is very nice, it could be an appealing picnic area also. What will our city do for this park+ it's beautification + our neighborhood?
It has swings, a slide, Pavillion, and other fun stuff on the lower part. And the upper half has a playground as well! Pretty nature mixed with distractions for the children. 5/5 stars
Simple playgrounds, quiet out of the way.. must-hit upper and lower!! An important part of any park hopping day!!
Beautiful view of the river, lots of deer and nature around
The park has expansive woods to explore. It's a great place to go enjoy nature and have your own adventures. I've been here many times over the years and I always discover something new whenever I delve into the woods. The playground area itself is nice as well. There's so much room to do everything!
