Miss Aurora came home with some issues from her breeder. She was on intense care with her vet but had taken a drastic turn so she needed to go here for life saving help. When we arrived there was a wait but that was ok. The staff here were very friendly and personable, felt like we were talking with friends. Unfortunately with intervention it was to late for her. She passed and was brought back however she was fading again and the decision was made to euthanize. The staff here was very respectful of the situation and the grief issues associated with this. It was a awful situation but they made it better.
Last week Sunday we ended up having to let my 14 yr old dog cross the rainbow bridge. They were a lot of help over the phone and when we got there. Wasn’t the hardest thing I’ve had to do. They were so caring and sent a sympathy card. I thank them for all the help I went through last week.
Our 12 yr old cat was diagnosed with nose cancer. They gave him 2 weeks to 2 months. I found him, 2 weeks later, unable to move his back legs. We knew it was time. From the first call I made to VCA I felt calm. They didn’t barrage me with a ton of questions. We walked in and was asked if this was punkin. We said yes and only had a small wait then was led to a room where we were told what to expect. Everyone there was kind and soft spoken so that helped immensely. I was able to hold him while they put him to sleep. God Bless all of you at VCA. Tom and Cheri Wright
The VCA animal hospital is amazing. I went in there with my Maxy having no idea what was wrong with him. They heard my concerns and took care of him. They kept me updated throughout his stay and even offered to let me keep the hair tie he had ate after they removed it. They truly saved his life and I could not be more thankful to their staff as well as specialists!
We unexpectedly had to say goodbye to our beautiful girl Roma over Memorial Day weekend. From the parking lot to our goodbyes the staff at VCA Veterinary Specialty & Emergency Center of Kalamazoo were amazing. They were professional, respectful, empathetic and heartfelt. I would recommend this staff and location to anyone in an emergency or other.
Not long ago, my dog was in need of an emergency medical service. The staff here were so kind, including their security officer. I appreciate Dr. Kaitlyn on that night helping my dog and I. She cared so much about my dog and was highly compassionate, that she deserved a hug and I gave her one. This is not my first visit and at previous visits, my dog and I were treated just the same. Thank you SO much.
This place doesn't deserve any stars as far as I'm concerned. I brought in my daughter's dog, Onyx just a couple of days ago, it was over an hour before the veterinarian even called me and then a total of three and a half hours before they told us they couldn't help Him unless we made a payment. Mind you, I offered to make payment when I first arrived. They told me to wait with 3 children in my car. After my daughter spoke with the veterinarian, my daughter informed him and the staff both that she wanted to try to take the dog home with the outpatient care mind you they still wouldn't treat the dog until they receive some type of payment and I offered a couple of times to do this with another hour wait they would give the dog some care and it would be between $600-900 when I first arrived. They then called me while and again told me that they needed payment before they could even treat the dog. They finally called me after 4 hours and stated it would be $1,600 and that my daughter consented to this amount, which would help the dog even more. I received a phone call from my daughter and she told me she did not consent, nor did I. They demanded payment again before we could pick him up, it wasn't until we told them the dog couldn't stay 3 to 5 days for a $6,000 bill, they then made calls to me instead of her. Of course I was going to pay what they told me she agreed to $1600 for additional care. . .The dog passed away 5 minutes after we picked up the dog. My daughter and grandkids didn't even get to say goodbye. I truly believe they already knew this dog was going to pass away, called my phone several times while I was feeding the children after our long, exhausting, scary wait. When I called them back and told them that my daughter did not approve this amount, they told me they would clear it up. Clearly they cleared it up. $1,600 and some devasted family members. I was warned about this place, guess I need to pay better attention to others advice in the future. Here is the text I received from them as proof name blanked out for privacy of names per Googles policy.... Hi Alicia, this is R----- from VCA VSECK. "Chelsea told us to give you a call to get payment for Onixs' care today. Please give us a call as we cannot start any treatments until we get payment and Johnny is heading this way for pickup."
On July 10th, 9 a.m., I had to bring my ferocious little lady beast in You see, she was 8 years old when I rescued her 14 years ago. We lived in 3 states and 17 cities together from the mountains of Washington to the forests of West Michigan. There isn't a day I'm not grateful for whoever abandoned her because the life we've lived together has been immeasurable. We taught each other patience and the value of not ignoring when you bump into your soulmate She was so stubborn for the longest weekend I've had in my life and didn't ask for help until that morning. On the 5th she was outside still catching mice, and by the 7th could hardly stand on her own. When we stumbled in there with her in my arms we were treated with respect and dignity. She couldn't have weighed more than 5 pounds and both of us covered in her fluids and my tears. I'm 6'1 205 lbs with gold teeth. It was a blur and didn't catch anybody's name, but a lady with black hair took her from my arms in her robe without treating her with disgust. No stopping for a hazmat or faces just outreached arms, she may not realize how much dignity she showed my little lady in that moment but it meant the world. Everyone was fast and polite, the moment itself was painless and she was in my arms RIP Dr. Chim Richalds 9/20/2001-7/10/2023 "Legends never die"
You never want to need emergency care for a pet. But if you do, I highly recommend this hospital. I have needed to visit twice for two different cats. Once in 2014 or 2015, and again in June 2023. Both times, my cats were treated so gently and with great care. The vet techs were gentle with my kitties and kind/understanding with me. Being at an emergency vet is a stressful, emotional time, but everyone I intersected with was very sensitive to this. The vet on my most recent visit was thorough in explaining our options and his recommendations for care. I did not feel rushed into any decisions, nor did I feel pressured to pursue expensive tests that didn’t seem necessary. It was more like a consultation where the DVM gave me options and we worked together to decide the care plan for my cat. Our cat is doing much better and will have follow up care with a regular clinic tomorrow. This is not a regular veterinary clinic, so be prepared to wait like you would at a human ER. This is the best option in the Kalamazoo area to get care for a pet when you can’t wait to get them in for an appointment at a regular clinic.
Thank you to all the staff members from the front desk ladies, to the vet techs, and Doctor's for their compassion, empathy, and urgency to help my dog in late June this year. Although it was too late to save her, they gave it their all and provided me far more support beyond their job descriptions. I appreciate you all for your hard work, compassion, and empathy during such a tragic time in my life. It takes special kinds of people to do what you all do and I can't thank you all enough!
