A neat little museum with kind workers. I took the guided tour and took some photos on my own. I was there about an hour. There were lots of interesting historical radios and demonstrations of radio technology. The building doesn't have central air, so it was very warm inside.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
Great little museum, would give it 5 stars, but our guide tried to skip the small rooms because she said she didn't know anything about the stuff in those rooms. She was reading from cards in the larger area. Would recommend someone writing out for her, so people get to see the whole museum. The entrance is ADA compliant, but the gift shop and items in the main lobby are not ADA compliant. Those items, including the gift shop could be relocated for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to see the whole museum.
With billionaires, fascists, disinformation, and technology, this museum tells a story that feels surprisingly timely. We visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon and enjoyed great conversations with our volunteer guide and several volunteer amateur radio operators who work out of the former control room in this historical powerhouse of radio broadcasting. Paired with my electrical engineer dad, we might have been an unusually inquisitive group, but there was lots to see and explore. My only complaint was that the gift shop didn't sell reproductions of any of their many great posters from the early days of radio.
I found this museum to be very interesting and packed with history. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable about all of the aspects of Bethany Station. I had no idea how important it was during WW 2 and the Cold War. The exhibits are well presented and include useful information about the building and Powell Crosley, Jr.
Excellent retelling of the history and technology of the Voice of America. Take a couple of hours and see not only the VoA, but the early days of radio. Great folks who really care to tell the story.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$6–10
As a ham radio operator and my younger year as a Shortwave Radio listener, visiting the Bethany station filled in a bucket list spot... not previously on that list. They appear to be on the positive side of ADA upgtades, compared to my pervious visit years ago. Interested in the truth and how it was broadcast for the world or expect "that was then and now is now"... stop in and ask for a tour.
Wonderful guided tour that made me want to go deeper into history and take up ham radio :Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$6–10
Outstanding museum that not only has great information regarding Voice of America but also broadcasting in the Cincinnati area. Well worth the trip and plan to spend at least two hours doing all of the excellent information, videos and displays. 5/2023: New displays have been added and improvements to the facility. Excellent tours and an extensive collection of am radios from the 20’s to the 70’s. A homemade crystal radio that you can tune to pick up AM stations. A wonderful HAM station with state of the art equipment and a tour of it. Even better than before.
Fantastic museum and knowledgeable staff/volunteers. Well rounded museum too so it’s a great fit for anyone interested in broadcasting, WW2, the Cold War, and local history. Very cool to see this unique piece of history preserved in such a stunning way!
Preserving our radio past for future generations. This is an amazing tribute to the importance of the Bethany relay station aka the voice of America. Led by a completely volunteer staff the museum offers a glimpse into the past and links to the present and future of radio communication. If you are even remotely interested in the history of radio or wartime communications you need to check this place out. The West Chester amateur radio association operates out of the museum and are a very friendly, generous and informative bunch. I highly recommend visiting them on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. to check out their open radio shack WC8VOA. Parking is not expansive but I do recommend getting there close to opening time. As the facility was designed primarily for radio communications it is not handicap accessible. Restrooms and gift shop on site. Do yourself a favor and check it out, it's worth the drive.
