Operated by Walter Buchholtz, the Grand Opening of The Walt was on November 14, 1940 with three showings at 2:30 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 9:00 p.m., with the western film “Wyoming” staring Wallace Beery. Admission was 10 cents for kids and 25 cents for adults.
Over the past 73 years there have been some changes, mostly minor renovations and up keep, but amazingly the same marque on the front remains and the same “white” screen the first movie was projected on back in 1940 is still used today.
The summer of 2014 brought big changes for The Walt. The Walt converted from 35mm print to digital cinema.
