Wow - that guy Turner is everywhere, isn't he? I seem to see Turner paintings everywhere I go, and they never disappoint. Aside from the fiery, ethereal depictions of stormy seas and calm harbors painted by Turner, you will find an astounding collection of British portraiture here, especially from the 18th century. The zenith of the British Academical school, combining classical techniques with a lightly airy and even Rococo sensibility, can be found here. There's also more modern art here, which isn't really my thing, but I respect the creativity. The museum itself is elegant and spacious. I highly recommend coming here.
Largest collection of British art outside of the U.K.. Great lay out. Broken down by important periods in British history. One can traverse the building easily from one floor to the next without the aid of any visual guide. Good trip for a family. Exhibits can be enjoyed by all ages. No admission fee. Multiple trips can be had, providing different perspective and appreciation for the arts.
Beautiful building and amazing exhibition. This museum has a nice large exhibition, from classic painting and sculptures to contemporary art. The building itself it's beautiful, it doesn't say much from the outside but the interior is modern, integrates the space with the exhibitions and with the outside light. This place exceeded my expectations. Very important to notice that the entry is free.
minimalism and silence in concrete ....one of lou's best works
So I came here towards the end of 2021 and while it’s small and was able to get through it fairly quickly, it was still worth the time. The staff was very nice and there is a lot of good artwork from the British. Pair this with the university art gallery and it’s a great day of art. And it’s free. Which is a great reason to go.
Free to enter and explore. Curious gallery space at the top with a lot of natural light and airy atmosphere. Look for the brutalist architecture all around you exposed cast concrete wall, railing, ceiling.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
My all-time favorite art museum designed by Louis Kahn. Fabulous galleries and public spaces and fantastic collection. Love it, love it, love it!
This is hands down my favorite museum in the world. Designed by famous architect Louis Khan his last - albeit unfinished - work, it is an architectural marvel hosting some of the most beautiful artistic gems this world has ever seen. I’d especially recommend a trip to the library hidden at the museum’s center.
The art gallery hold a lot of interesting artifacts from around the globe. Loved their collection.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
A world class museum of British art directly across the street from the Yale Art Gallery. While they are both free the museums use timed tickets that you can obtain on their websites. This is as of the summer of 2021. You must also be masked at all times while on the premises.
