If you're serious about boxing, this gym is the real deal. Coach Washington is very technical and has a great workout. Like with anything, you need to be a self-starter. You can eventually get in the ring too if you want. I had a great time here; would continue to go but I am moving. Very affordable. I highly recommend.
This gym is a joke and it’s dangerous to let this man train anyone willing to put gloves on and hop into the ring with anyone. Unless your a 50 year old woman looking to jump rope and over pay for the facility for cardio….. this guy is a complete joke. He has no idea of fundamentals, never been in the real world….. he is the apitomy of the kind of guy that gets people hurt in this sport. This is a business that’s main objective is getting monthly dues to make a business. I never met Mr Washington’s son who runs the other gym…… but all I know is Mr Washington has no knowledge of this sport and is a hobbiest with no experience playing a part to collect monthly dues. I’ve been in boxing my entire life…. Entertained a free trial with my old lady to just do it with her and get into a gym for fun…… and walked away disgusted and will never return. SMH
The class is different than a conventional class and may not be for everyone but I liked it. I've been boxing on my own for a few years and take classes here and there to help with my form. One class here and I can see definitely see improvement in my foot work. The owner is very nice and seems like he genuinely cares and wants you to learn and succeed.
I go to this gym. I've been going here since April and not only is the coach a great coach but he's a great person. It's a sweat gym where you work hard. There is a boxing arena upstairs and regular fighting. I learned how to box in about 3 months. I'm very happy to still be a member here and highly recommend joining if you are serious about learning how to box.
Alden is a great coach for teaching all levels of participants. He goes over the basics and teaches you new techniques as you get better. My girlfriend and I took a few classes through Groupon, and had great workouts and learned a lot!
I just read Rober M's "cross block" review lmao! I guess you can't please everyone! Alden Washington has been in the martial arts for 50+ years and has trained countless people to box, kickboxing and defend themselves. I have not only been in the ring competing with him as my coach and cornerman but I have also worked along side him in the corner. He knows what he is doing. If you are looking to learn how to fight this is the place!
I went here for about 2-3 months, and I was doing well, shutting down everyone's jab with my right hand and simultaneously returning with a jab of my own. In an act of sabotage, the head trainer made me "cross block," which is a bogus technique in which he said you are to reach across your body to block the jab. Even if this were possible it would expose you to the opponent's cross on the next move. He was trying to get me knocked out, which is de facto assault, because he is putting me in imminent danger. I was glad he kicked me out of the ring after only one round of trying that technique. I have his confirmation of teaching "cross blocking," which does not exist anywhere but in his senile mind, in writing. I consider this an mma gym, they also teach kick boxing and the chief trainer has a Bando Burmese for "Way of the Warrior" Certificate, which deals with every form of fighting, even weapons. If you're a lawyer or a law enforcement agent with the will to oppose tyranny do something.
Great place Coach is a great guy felt extremely comfortable after being there 5 minutes I had my mind made up I need my son to join.
