My husband contracted mrsa from a surgery there. After speaking our concerns about staff and mrsa precautions to the infectious disease doctor. He had to reiterate to staff to gown up. A couple days later he had a pic line inserted, said pic line was left on the floor of his hospital room. My child found the pic line and gave it to y husband. I also found the sharp part of a syringe they used to administer his vancomycin. The needle was put on table with his food, in between bananas and candy. I took pictures of these findings. My husband and I are now being retaliated against to the point where security searched every part of his room and attempted to take his phone as NO PICTURE TAKING AT ANY TIME IS TO BE DONE I guess all birth photography needs to stop too? Dept of public health is now involved.

Went to the ER Sunday evening for extreme tooth pain due to abscess/infection. Was seen promptly. Once settled in a room, a nurse came in. Michelle. I don't think I will ever forget her name. Now mind you, I was beside myself. She calmed me down, understood how scared and uncomfortable I was, did things slowly. I hate medications so when she had to administer them she gave them to me super slow to make sure I was comfortable. I went home within a few hours of treatment and was able to sleep for the first time in days. She made sure my worries weren't worries anymore and assured me I wasn't going to die. Anyone who has had tooth pain can sympathize with this feeling of literally dying because it hurts so bad. Michelle - you were amazing to me and I will forever be grateful. Nurses like you, make a huge difference. THANK YOU.
Watch out for unexpected costs because of their negligence! I had surgery there on a Friday in February and was released even though I hadn’t urinated. I was told if after 6 hours I still couldn’t urinate to call the number on my discharge paperwork for Garrison Women’s Health. I did that and no one called me back. After over 8 hours not being able to urinate, I was in a lot of pain and very uncomfortable so decided my only option was to go to the ED. Everyone I encountered at the ED was so surprised I had been discharged earlier that day even though I hadn’t voided my bladder. They inserted a catheter and eventually sent me home. I tried following up with Garrison to have it removed but because it was the weekend got nowhere. Found out Monday morning that their office was closed and because I hadn’t been sleeping and I was so uncomfortable, went back to the ED to have the catheter removed. The ED charges total over $800. I contacted Mass General Brigham because I don’t feel I should be responsible for these charges because I had no other option. Their response was “Your concern with your discharge from same day surgery prior to voiding has been reviewed by department leadership and it was determined the appropriate protocols were followed. As such, any charges incurred from subsequent visits remain your responsibility”. Obviously patient care is not their top priority, it’s just about how much money they can make.
Was brought to the ER for ketoacidosis, staff were attentive and answered my questions and were open to discussions about a care plan and my own wants in terms of treatment. Waits were a bit long, but when you’re in a full ER in a hospital that’s completely full, and 4 stroke patients come in while your there, you kinda just gotta be a patient patient.
DO NOT GO HERE! I was in an abusive relationship for years, he broke my tailbone one of the million things he did to me, I thought it was just bruised tailbone, coccyx, & sacrum. I’ve been in EXCRUCIATING pain for 4 months now. I can’t sit, I can’t lay down, I can’t stand up from sitting or laying down. I can’t even carry my purse without extreme pain. I get extreme random flair ups where the pain is INSANE. Pain so extreme and unbearable. I went here while on vacation without insurance because my insurance is only valid in Connecticut. So, I saw Carly Ann Shiembob in the ER. She did not even listen to anything I was saying or explaining. She truly did not care. After trying everything possible outside the hospital, and everything they tried icy hot & ice I told them I been doing everything I possibly could. I take the max amount of Tylenol and ibuprofen everyday and it used to work occasionally but it’s not helping especially during the flair ups of excruciating pain. All the money I put in to this vacation and it was just me and my mom and it was ruined due to my pain. I finally decide to go to an emergency room because it hadn’t gone away and should have, took me 6 hours and multiple nurses seeing the pain I was in and going to Carly Ann Shiembob on their own without even speaking to me, just seeing the pain I was in, and they convinced her to give me a 5mg oxycodone, and for the first time in 4 months I had a moment of relief, I cried so much because I thought I would live in this pain from being abused forever and I’m only 26 years old. She kept me there till it wore off and I was back in horrible pain again, I did not sleep in over a week because of the pain, I asked and the nurse also asked her on her own to give me one more 5mg oxy, and then send me home before it wore off so while I had that relief I could get to sleep send me home with my mom, she was with me, it wasn’t like I was driving or alone, my mom was with me. She refused and said she shouldn’t have even given me the 5mg oxycodone. I asked to speak to her myself, she came to talk to me 4 hours later right as she was leaving, it was the end of her shift, she was not listening to anything I said, that was clear as day, she said “no and that she shouldn’t have given me anything because clearly I’m now addicted after taking ONE 5mg oxycodone.” Yet she sent the guy next to me with a painful knee because he fell on it home with a whole script of a lot of oxy. I finally had found something that gave me relief and I did not want a script of it, I just wanted one to take while there and then send me on my way with my mom just to get sleep because I hadn’t slept in a week by that point because of the pain, and after trying 100’s of things to relieve the broken tailbone for MONTHS, I just couldn’t believe I had a short moment of pain relief after having constant, non-stop pain for 4, almost 5 months. I did not want a script. Just one then send me on my way with my mom. I’m on vacation for another 1 & 1/2 weeks here and now I have to be in constant pain and ruin my mom and daughter trip over this. She was THE WORST DOCTOR I EVER CAME IN CONTACT WITH! She refused to listen to me or my mom. She truly did NOT care. She truly should not be a doctor. Do NOT go to this emergency room!!!!!!! GO ANYWHERE ELSE BUT HERE! FIRE HER!!!!!!!!
I do not recommend this hospital. I had a terrible experience and it made me a stronger patient advocate coming from a family of doctors. I don’t necessarily fault the physicians but it’s a terrible system, rude staff and not patient oriented at all. I do like some of the doctors but I think overall this is a terrible place as a patient. I agree with the other reviews that there is negligence and many surprise costs with absolutely no recourse for finding answers. Patient experience is extremely rude, they’re not knowledgeable and assume every patient just doesn’t want to pay if you do question things on the bill. Most hospitals will at least try to work something out with you from my experience or answer your questions. I much rather go to Portsmouth and that is the place I would recommend.
I was in a major car accident on Central Avenue recently and was brought in by ambulance to the WDH emergency room. From the start of my care until I was released 4 hours later, it was a positive experience. I can not say enough good things about my visit there. I had multiple test with multiple departments and each and every staff member was professional, caring and took great care of me. I highly recommend them. They put all of my fears at ease throughout my stay during that crucial time. I give them 10 stars!!! Dr. O'Brien is by far my favorite emergency room savior! I can understand that it can be quite busy in that department, but they make you feel like you are the "only" patient. I appreciate all that they did for me, they are a remarkable group!!! Outstanding!!! :
This place is terrible... I use to hate the idea of universal healthcare, but it's the same experience here. They want you to show up 15 minutes early just to wait an hour. I've been a patient for over 12 years and I've waited an excessive time, EVERY TIME! I went to the lab this morning I was told it opens at 6:00 turns out it opens at 6:30. They didn't start seeing people until 6:45. It was bad before Mass. General took them over, and they somehow managed to become worst. YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PATIENTS...
Best place to die, as staff can't even set up suction or vital cpr equipment in every patients room correctly. Choose a compent hospital that ensures safety to every patient.
