The Young Center advocates for the best interests - safety and well-being - of unaccompanied and separated immigrant children. We do so in accord with state and federal law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The Young Center serves as Child Advocate (best interests guardian ad litem) for individual unaccompanied children. The Young Center also engages in policy advocacy at the national and local levels to make the case for a change in law and policy to require that decision makers consider best interests in all cases involving immigrant children.
The mission of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights is to promote the best interests of unaccompanied immigrant children with due regard for the child’s expressed wishes, according to state and federal law, and the Convention on the Rights of the child.
