So what is Zumba? It’s a dance, they say, that’s a workout like no other.

Zumba is actually a dance fitness program inspired by Latin music, and integrated with other international styles as the popularity of fast and slow beats caught on. The story of how it came about is what I call a fate-tale: an aerobics class instructor realized that he had forgotten his aerobic music when he got to the class, so he made the best of some Latin tapes he had in his backpack. Improvising throughout the class, he based the moves on the beat of the music instead of counting the movements. The result? An intense, yet satisfying and fun workout session which the students enjoyed immensely. And … welcome to the world, Zumba!


The main objective of Zumba isn’t simply to keep in shape – the goal is to keep in shape without feeling like you’ve been in an intense workout session. You will probably enter the room feeling like a bit of an idiot, but as the time passes and you feel the music pulse through your soul, moving your body becomes the most natural thing in the world.

Aerobics?
This expression, by itself, directly means "with oxygen", but it comes alive when used as an adjective to identify exercise. Aerobic exercise is exercise that is energetic enough and vigorous, lasts long enough and is done regularly enough to keep your heart and lungs in good conditions.
