We are Baakens Food Truck Funday - Port Elizabeth's very own mobile food operated event. We are an event for everybody, a truly community-based project.
Baakens Food Truck Funday (prev, Baakens Food Truck Friday) started in November 2016 with only 10 food trucks, 2 djs and a great turnout. Today we are not just a food truck family market, but also a space for craftsmen to showcase their wares, a platform for local artists to be discovered, and a true reflection of Port Elizabeth’s street food culture.
The uniqueness of the event, aside from its unique location, is that
BFTF has no entrance fee as its held on public open space, all
meals are capped at R50 and there is a definite focus on a family
environment.
Each event has kids activities, a design market and resident
bars/restaurants open for the day. People are also encouraged
to bring their own blankets and camping chairs to picnic on the
grass area. It is a true community event.
/ OUR MISSION /
Baakens Food Truck Funday was started as a community activation
project, with the aim of driving the greater public to the
Baakens Valley precinct in the heart of Port Elizabeth. The market
was started to not only give upcoming food trucks, tuk-tuks
and trailers a home in the City, but it was intended to grow the
street food culture in Nelson Mandela Bay.
