Bonamanzi Conservation Trust

About

Bonamanzi Conservation Trust is an Non profit Conservation Volunteer program situated in KwaZulu Natal (South Africa)
Wildlife Conservation and Community development are our objectives.

Description

Bonamanzi conservation Trust is based in a spectacular privately-owned game reserve in the Kwazulu Natal of South Africa. The Bonamanzi Game Reserve is a Natural Heritage Site bordered by the spectacular Lake St. Lucia -a World Heritage Site - and the magnificent Hluhluwe River.
Ecotourism in South Africa is on a steady rise and many landowners are rehabilitating farmland into wildlife and nature reserves. Creating and sustaining an ecosystem, especially one with so many habitats, requires an enormous amount of knowledge and painstaking research.
And that's where we come in: Bonamanzi Conservation Trust project began in 2012 as a management research/conservation programme to assist the owners of these private game reserve to re-establish their land as prime wilderness areas.
Our experienced reserve managers and conservationists have years of field experience. The work we do links ecology with the practical running of a nature reserve and this provides a rewarding educational wildlife volunteer programme.

Mission

To preserve what our most precious tresor, our environment.

Firstly, their service was good, the accomodations but what was mostly interesting was our game Drive. Mzoe Mthethwa, he knows his work and he made us enjoy the drive. The experience was memorable, and we’re glad that we’ve achieved it!Rooms: 5/5

Spent my anniversary weekend at Bonamanzi and it was nothing short of spectacular. Stayed in one of their Tree House units which offered a private and serene log cabin style apartment built on stilts, nestled between the trees. The unit was equipped with all the necessities and was clean and tidy. Fred, an amazing game ranger was extremely knowledgeable and courteous. During the 6am game drive, we enjoyed a hot cup of coffee and muffins while Fred passed on his gems of wisdom about all the vast species of animal and plant that we experienced during the drive. Bonamanzi is definitely worth the visit.
At camping site 14 the bathroom taps are electrified. The bathroom and sewerage system certainly needs attention. Restaurant was excellent!Rooms: 2/5
Stayed in the tented camps. Fully equipped. Friendly staff and a small "restaurant" where you can order food.Rooms: 4/5
We arrived an hour after check-in and the apartment was still being cleaned. The electrical main switch would trip the whole time during our 4-day stay. The apartments were poorly maintained and they had a stench, we tried to spray some room fragrance but the smell persisted. The rooms are poorly air conditioned and the environment is very humid. The door to the second room would not close. The surroundings are beautiful and peaceful however we did not encounter many animals. Overall we did not enjoy our stay.
Bonamanzi is our favorite place to camp in Zululand. Peaceful, scenic, diverse.Location: 5/5
Thoroughly enjoyed camping on bush campsite 18 with our own ablutions and wash up area, and discovering a place we've never been to before. You have to work hard to find the game but that's what makes it so rewarding. We self drove and a lot of the roads were tricky from all the rain and are not suitable for regular vehicles even on a normal day. There is the option to go on guided game drives though. All the staff we encountered, from the gate guard, to the cleaners, to the reception staff were very friendly and most helpful. We will definitely be back with friends in the future.
First time at Bonamanzi, to attend Karel & Bianca's wedding Ceremony! We loved the relaxing atmosphere along with the wildlife animals all around you! We loved our rooms. We especially loved the breakfast that was served! Wow! Awesome time, and we will most definitely recommend this reserve & hopefully stay over again soon!
We loved the camping and the property. On Friday evening we found low or no pressure in the bathrooms. We contacted the 24 hour number and after 2 attempts a person answered. We were told that some elephants messed up the waterlines acceptable and understood. We were promised that the water should be back soon. Saturday morning, still no water, at this point we just needed to shower. We went to reception but were told we would have to wait a bit longer. By the afternoon we went back to reception to ask for a key of a unit that has water - we had to ask, Bonamanzi did not offer! The keys were given, the evening when we wanted to shower there were other guests in the unit and we almost walked in on other guests sleeping. Eventually we received another units keys and could shower. We understand water issues, we understand that it might take time to resolve, but for the camping fee we paid any of the Bonamanzi fees for that matter we expected a bit more customer service and the situation could have been handled...
