If I could give this so called “guest farm” ZERO stars I would. My mom booked this trip away as a surprise for my dad because he loves being in the bush. Our family trip started out with my brother and I arriving at this horror stay by nearly ruining my suzuki as we were never informed that the road to the farm on the property was filled with soft sand and giants holes that easily give way under the pressure of tyres. We arrive at the main house to collect our keys and wait over 20 mins as no one is coming to the gate despite hooting and following instructions trying to call the owners despite ZERO signal We explain that my parents will be joining later and the booking is indeed for 5 people and Louis the rude host then proceeds to lead us up the side of the mountain in my suzuki that is barely equipped for a gravel road never mind a mountain hike. We arrive at a shifty looking “chalet” and my brother and myself both admit after that drive and the way the main house looks this is on the up. Sadly, we are confronted with a smelly fridge that has been stained yellow, doesn’t close and isn’t even on. A gas hob that looks as though it may explode. The view could barely detract from this. We walk into the room and the linen is an assault on the eyes. I can only assume that the sheets were once pink or had been dyed some sort of peach to hide stains. Louis hands us a black bag and inside are our towels. He says the solar battery is charged and we must drive down the mountain to charge the battery for the lights again. There were no glasses. There was a used old toilet roll a dirty mirror. Don’t get me started on the bathroom. Yes there is an outdoor shower, that was the one true thing in the “room features”. It’s outdoors and crusty and full of mould on the shower head but luckily they kindly left behind a crusty old piece of soap for us to freely use. When my parents arrived we sat in dismay for a while and read through a book left behind for us. Not only was there a personal hunting scrap book left for us but also racially charged newspaper clippings that Louis had saved over the years. This was enough to throw my father over the edge and he went to speak to the owner and this delusional old man told us “it’s been done this way for 17 years and we can store our meat in his house and charge our phones there” obviously we were shocked and so we mentioned the photos are nothing like what we got, so where are the photos from? To which the wife had lots of answers and was fumbling over her words. Louis told her to “shut up” and that if we have a problem we must take it up with the booking company. Bottom line, the photos were nothing like the place. The place was dirty, the host was rude and there was certainly an undertone of screw us. ZERO hospitality. I would recommend you DONT visit and that you DEFINITELY DONT visit if you are a person of colour after what we saw in that scrape book. What a DISGUSTING experience I have no idea where the other reviews came from!
The view from the shower is worth a visit. Friendly hosts. Beautiful tranquil bushveld experience.
