Cape Town Museum of Childhood

About

The Cape Town Museum of Childhood, an exciting museum for children & adults of all ages, exploring & celebrating childhood, opening in Cape Town in 2018

Description

The Cape Town Museum of Childhood, funded by the National Lotteries Distribution Trust Fund, will provide an institution for the heritage, documentation, memory, oral history, research, and interpretation of childhood.

The Museum will house a national collection of childhood-related exhibitions. The Museum’s aim is to capture the heritage of childhood and the role that children play in society. This will be done through documenting, studying and interpreting childhood by creating an interactive space that allows an opportunity for children, families and communities to celebrate childhood, to gain insights into childhood and to learn about childhood heritage. The Museum is located in Milner Road, Rondebosch with renovation work due to be completed in 2018.

Mission

'Childhood is the most beautiful of all life's seasons.' To celebrate childhood in all its glory.

What an amazing place for a school outing. Wow! Pitter Patter Playschool from Tokai had a fantastic morning there this week. The staff were attentive and so eager to please and interacted brilliantly with the children. The children just didn't want to go home, which is a really good sign. Thank you so much for a lovely morning at the Museum of Childhood.
Excellent. Free. Geared for kids so don't need to stress about your kids breaking things. Lovely reading room. Amazing crafts/activity table. Jungle gym and sand pit.

Had so much fun with my boys! They loved it and the staff is so friendly! It was also great connecting with other parents and caregivers!
This is my daughter’s absolute favourite place and such an incredible blessing. So many wonderful things for kids to do and explore. A stunning reading room, a wonderful arts and crafts room, a great jungle gym and swings outside, not to mention lots of toys! All there for kids to play with. And all for no charge. It’s an absolute haven for little ones and we love it. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the facilities are well kept and clean. I highly recommend this to anyone with a child.
An excellent hidden gem in Cape Town for anyone with young kids. The museum is friendly and engaging from the moment you enter through the gate. The staff are welcoming, passionate and knowledge. The museum itself has something for all kids, our 2 year-old enjoyed the jungle gym, swings, large selection of toys to play with, story room and craft room. There are even more educational activities for older children. Some of the older and more established museums can definitely learn something about creating an engaging space for learning from this independently run master piece.
Loved our first visit today!! Definitely a hidden gem. The beautiful book section, great art space, LOVED the letters you can write to Red Cross. Also the play area outside. Will certainly be visiting again:
