The history of Carter High School
Carter High School is a relatively young school, having opened its doors for the first time in January 1977 with 5 teachers and 53 pupils.
We have grown into a large, well respected school with an enrollment of over 1000 pupils and an academic staff of around 70.
Our school derives its name from the Honourable Mr Justice T.F. Carter, who sat on the Natal bench in the early part of this century. Our school motto, "Justitia et Veritas" (Justice and Truth), links our present aims with ideals for which Judge Carter stood.
At Carter, an holistic approach to education is underpinned by the principles of Justice and Truth, within a caring environment where achieving a balance between the needs of the individual and those of society is a vital goal. Our aim is to develop informed, responsible individuals capable of making decisions and interacting successfully within the context of their homes, families, workplaces and society.
