Cederberg Brewery

Description

Welcome to Cederberg Brewery, a microbrewery based at Cederberg Private Cellar on Dwarsrivier Farm in the heart of the pristine and unpolluted Cederberg Conservation Area.

Combining European inspiration with South African innovation, we set out with a simple goal: to brew the beers we wanted to drink.

We started small, with a homebrew system, a love for craft beer, plenty of passion and determination. The result? Hand crafted natural beer, made with the purest ingredients. Beers that can stand on taste alone.

Unfortunately the brewery was not open over the 4 days we were in the Cederberg hiking which was such a pity. This however did not dampen our spirits in purchasing two of each to sample at our accommodation over the visitation days. They were very varied in bitterness and alcohol % but all were delicious and believe me during a hot late November with temp reaching 42⁰C the beer could not have been more delicious as a thirst quencher. My favourite of 5 were Chatterbox & Blonde Ale.
Hard to believe one can find both a top-class wine estate and a craft brewery in such a remote location, 1000m above sea level in a remote mountain range and at the end of 50-odd kilometres of mostly-dirt access road. But find it you do. At the time we visited May 2019, the "tasting room" was essentially a corner of the top floor above the maturation cellar. Take note that this is not the same place as the wine tasting room. The rather casual location didn't detract from the experience at all - in fact it's rather cool walking past maturation vats containing 9,000 litres of Chardonnay, Chenin etc on your way to taste fine craft beer! The exceptionally friendly staff gave us an informative intro to the current beer products : Original lager, Boggom Blonde Ale, Voertsek India Pale Ale and - my personal favourite - their limited-release "Double IPA", which was incredible. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but the Double IPA blew me away. Whether it's the location or the pure mountain water, I can't say, but the beers are delicious. It takes a bit of effort to get into the Cederberg, so take your time, make a long weekend of it and get to see both the winery and the brewery. Cederberg's wines are already legendary, and the beers are on the same trajectory. Definitely a worthwhile visit!
Top 3 of best SA breweries. Loved the beers and the people, friendly with full of knowledge and just a perfect place for one of the best cold beers. Must go to if you're in the neighborhood.
The new bar is such a great place to watch the sunset and the beer is fantastic! I was super impressed by the staff service at the Cederberg Brewery. They were very welcoming and friendly. It is such a great experience having to walk through the brewery to access the bar. My recommendation: If your passing on by don't just stop at the fantastic wine tasting but go grab a pint or two of their fantastic Lager. Really i cant seem to find anything to criticize them about, perhaps i had one to many beers;
Friendly staff, beautiful setting, great tasting room with excellent white wines. And the best beer I have tasted in a long time. I would highly recommend Cederberg Brewery.
