Department of Home Affairs Tongaat

I had a 9am appointment & allowing the guys in with appointment is a good system, but there's corruption with others cutting the que because they have paid R300 to get in. The security guard at the gate takes a R12 airtime from citizens that don't have a smart phone to book an appointment. He then gives them the date they need to come back. Ques are long inside because some of the staff are busy on their cell phones. The lady that was taking the photos took another 5 minutes before she called the next person because she was texting on her cell. They shouldn't be allowed to have their cell phones with them during working hours.

The staff here needs to have a red bull every morning as they absolutely slow, Management of the ques needed to be looked into and their systems also need updating. The public can't be standing outside in the hot sun waiting for hours to get their documents ,absolute madness. Better to get some documents via the bank like ID and passports.

Only opened for booked appointments.no walk-ins. Site that tells you that there are designated counters for appointments and that you will be assisted if you walk-in is misleading.so much for Batho Pele principles Cannot make appointment online...keep saying no slot available for any date you try. Got assisted with an appointment date but it was done by staff working there and no options of which date suited me. Many people got turned away at gate.was not given option to go in for assistance with booking appointments. Sad coz it's costly,dangerous and unnecessary to travel up and down Parking is terrible

Overall Rating: RATING = minus 5 SHOCKING SERVICE! The attitude and service of Derrick Naidoo, the manager at Tongaat Home Affairs, is simply awful and unacceptable. I spoke to him this morning and asked him how can I COLLECT MY ID that has been there since FEB 2022 according to DHA Head Office. I've been back every month to try and collect it but stand in the lines all day long outside the gates and never get in to simply collect an ID!! How long can it take to get someone to sign for the ID and move along to the next person??? His tone is immediately defensive, argumentative, aggressive and full of a million excuses blaming systems letting them down, loadshedding, Seta, etc etc. The staff are so lax and couldn't care less, the attitude is not one of service to their customers, but as if they are above everyone else and doing us a favour! They should all be fired, or at least sent on CUSTOMER SERVICE TRAINING. Derrick Naidoo simply told me that I must go back after 6 visits to date to stand in the line as that's how it works. No appointments! It's a first come first serve he said. Well Derrick Naidoo, you are no example for the Dept of Home Affairs I'm sad to say. No batho Pele principles in you attitude. On top of this, the attitude of the security guard is unacceptable - not the right fit for a customer service government establishment - they just simply LOCK THE GATES BEFORE CLOSING and say that's all for today!! With people like this in service, our country has no hope of coming right.

The service here is unacceptable . Waited with my parents for my first ID for over 8hrs. Had to stand outside for hours with no help or direction from any staff. Have to avoid the taxis that have no consideration for the safety of the waiting people. The queue was not long but the service was dragging. Hardly moved for hours. There are no seats available so you forced to wait outside the gates for hours. Very disappointing because there is no communication at all.At the end I was still unable to do my ID.

Booked a 2pm appointment via the online booking system, got there half an hour early..they were offline and had just got back online so they had to start with the mornings appts first. They were quite organised outside the gates. I must have stood outside for about 20mins before they had called my name, once inside process took less than an hour. Staff were very friendly and helpful..did not experience any bad attitudes. I have been to both the Durban and umgeni road home affairs previously... Had a complete opposite experience...Well done to tongaat staff and security..

Made an appointment and paid online. Still sat for 4 hours. Got a message a week later it was ready for collection. Went to collect and told to sit outside in the q. People kept coming in after us and not coming out. Take my advice get a number from the 1st counter and go to collections else you can sit there for a LONG time without being attended to

With an appointment waited for 5 hours to get a passport made and another 3 hours on a seperate day for collection. What's the point of a appointment really makes no sense

Really impressed with the branch booking system! It was a seemless process to get our passport and ID applications done

They are getting one star because there isn't an option for zero stars. I waited for over a year for my documents, it was a very unpleasant experience.
