Dr Van Zyl is a wonderful doctor and he does his job exceptionally well.His receptionist is very kind,diligent and ALWAYS friendly to me and my family. The medical industry is a difficult and complicated place. People must understand no two doctors are the same and being a medical receptionist is actually a wonderful position but a very difficult one. Unless you have been one, you have no idea what they go through on a daily basis. For example people are unnecessarily horrible to them and they have to take it with a smile. A bit unfair it seems... However I think Dr Van Zyl and Megan are amazing at what they do.
I have been with DR Van Zyl for about 4 months now. I was VERY apprehensive to choose him as my doctor because of the reviews. I must say the receptionist has ALWAYS been friendly to me. I'm not sure of her name so I don't know if she is this "Megan" that the other reviews talk about but I have always been treated in a friendly manner by her and even had a few laughs together. Yes, Dr Van Zyl is not chatty and gets straight to the point, but he has always treated me with dignity and always provided me with the right medication. I'm not sure if people want to go to the doctor and want to get 5-star hotel treatment but Dr Van Zyl does his job and does it well.
Always a pleasure dealing with Megan @ front desk - very efficient! Dr Van Zyl has a straightforward, practical approach that I agree with.
Receptionist, Megan, is giving medical advice when she has absolutely no authority to do so. When questioned if she is a doctor she tells me she is actually studying psychology. This must be a sick joke. You are a receptionist, you are not authorised to be giving medical advice. Stay in your lane and do your job. Don't try and be clever because you are obviously not. I'm so sorry your parents made a series of bad decisions that ended up in you being a receptionist, but you need to accept that you are nothing more than a receptionist and stop trying to sound smart. You are uneducated and you are NOT a doctor, no matter how much you'd like to think you are.
The doctor states he has never seen my husband in person, yet he has on multiple occasions claimed in person visit payments from his medical aid. I am reporting him to the Health Professions Council of South Africa with the email he wrote staying he has never seen my husband in person and with the multiple in person payment medical aid claims he has made. Good luck to the doctor and his uneducated receptionist Megan who thinks she is too clever to be a receptionist.
The receptionist Megan thinks she is a Dr and can tell patients what scripts they can get without even asking the actual doctor. Never dealt with such a rude person before.

Been with him for years, kind and caring, no nonsense type of person, but want him on your side and to look after your health. Very good!!
I use him for all three my kids. He knows his job so well it doesn't take him more than a two minutes to know exactly what's wrong. The Medicine he gives fixes you up within two days. Not a friendly doctor but one that knows his job extremely well.
Disgusted with the service. Receptionist is lovely, but Dr Van Zyl is very rude and just like mentioned in most of these reviews - NO compassion. He rushes you, makes you sound stupid, is rudely sarcastic, and wastes your money and time. I do not recommend this “doctor” at all.
