Great place on the beach, prices are not bad, would be great to see a greater selection of beer at better prices. The service was great and although Dunes does not have a dedicated wheelchair loo it is possible to use the available facilities with with a bit of planning and help from the staff. I did phone to find out if the venue was wheelchair accessible and unfortunately whoever answered the phone did not sound too keen for my business, I guess that means the tourists are back in Cape Town? The food was good and well priced however my steak was overcooked and not well seasoned also not the best cut, might be better to stick to the seafood options here. Parking: No disabled parking available Wheelchair accessibility: The venue is relatively wheelchair friendly a bonus would be a dedicated loo for wheelchair users, something that is sadly lacking at many establishments in the Mother City
One of the restaurants in Houtbay with the best view is the Dunes Beach Restaurant and Bar. It is almost on the beach with just a tiny street separating the two, and you have an amazing view of the beach/bay in front of you with Chapmans Peak on the one side and the Houtbay Harbour on the other. It really gives you that beach restaurant atmosphere, with a lot of outside seating options including some areas where you can sit with your feet in the sand and others where you can relax on "couches", sipping on a cocktail while the sun goes down. It is good to note that they also have indoor seating for those days when the weather isn't playing along. Although the food looked really good we only had a couple of cocktails which were very tasty. The waiter was also very friendly and although they were fully booked, because we only visited for drinks they made a plan for us and we managed to get a pretty nice table with a view. It is good to note that there is ample parking available and I recommend you make a booking if you are a larger group as they are very popular.
Lovely breakfast, good value for money. Best decaf cappuccino I’ve had- I had two! But the winning factor for this establishment is the beach front setting. amazing atmosphere on both sunny days and windy / rainy days. Plenty of parking. Large kids play area. Steps at main entrance. Parking: Lots of parking shares with the beachfront.
I really liked this place to sit outside, even on a cold and windy day, as the food was greatĺ. We asked for speedy kid's pizzas and got them! The staff were very helpful and adults food was very good. Kid-friendliness: Excellent play area to entertain the kids.
I’d probably rate it a two if it wasn’t beachside. The view is stunning but the staff is cold with little knowledge of food. They served me an Eggs Benedict with what tasted and looked like a cheese sauce. When I enquired about it, staff were clueless. Needless to say, I didn’t finish my meal. Go for drinks and the view, nothing more.
Nice place with a great kids playground and white sand. Food is very good Minus star - oysters was very badly opened - full of small peaces of shellRecommended dishesFish & Chips, Pizza, Beef Burger and Fries, Traditional Fish and Chips
An amazing spot for lunch. I had fish of the day, yellow tail with baby potatoes, red onions and green beans. The fish and chips was delicious and their burgers are top class as well. Even on a windy day this spot is a great option for the family. The play area was a massive hit if you can avoid the spoilt brats that throw sand at your little perfect Cherubs.
They have quite a limited list for breakfasts. The menu is slightly confusing, but eventually we figured it out. The food was actually pretty good. I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict with bacon that I got. It was super loud with lots of people. The view of the bay was nice though. Kid-friendliness: There was a cool playground outside for the kids. It looked like a lot of fun, unfortunately I was too old to enjoy it.
Disappointing experience to say the least. Strangely, came recommended yet missed the mark on several points. First, the service.. they are understaffed for sure. You cant find anyone ready to serve you. Second, the food. Underwhelming baby squid with fries and rice, very bland. My friend said his sushi rolls were delish so . All I know is I was disappointed.
As a person of color, refrain from going to this place because you'll get a kaak service and zero hospitality. Beautiful place though. They almost ruined our year end function with my colleagues. They must work on their hospitality from all the supervisors on the ground to the staff. Food was okay.
