Beautiful calming place, with lots of greens and bird. Eclectic rooms with unique styles and very friendly staff and owners. Great home base for outings to Addo park and activities on the riverRooms: 5/5
We did not stay as our plans changed!!! I cancelled early as the website SAID free cancellation!!! Now the money was taken out of my Credit card??? Wrote several emails to cancel???
In all aspects the lodge and management was excellent. Our booking had to change many times due to Covid and the staff obliged in all ways. We stayed in the self catering cottage. It was well equipped, clean and lovely with a stunning view of the Sunday's RiverRooms: 5/5
Good location next to the Sundays river. The guest house is a good place to spend one or 2 nights to mainly visit Addo Elephant Park. Not many good quality restaurants in the surroundings. When we arrived to the lodge some days ago afternoon around 4:30 pm, so not even late, we got our keys handed over by another guest !?. It was not possible to receive a proper check in and the needed information at that time. We also got another room as originally booked. This was supposedly to be an upgrade but definitely not what we wanted 2 separate rooms with younger kids is not ideal. The rooms we got were old, with too many mixed decorations, very dark and definitely need a deep clean. We suffered from allergies the 3 nights we spent there. Not all windows have a mosquito net which is important since there are tons of bugs and mosquitos around. The outdoor social area is beautiful and so is the breakfasts deck. But in total the lodge is overclassed definitely not 4* and rather a simple accommodation to go on excursion to Addo and just to spent the night.
We stayed 4 nights at Dungbeetle River lodge. Had a great stay. The view in front of our cottage was superb, breakfast was very good and safari in Addo Elephant park 2 times with Mike was excellent eventhough we unfortunately did not see any lion nor rhino as the Bush is too thick. We took a lovely boat trip with Beau and climbed the big dunes.
Etta and her team were so friendly and went all out to make our stay so special. What a beautiful and peaceful setting. Breakfast delicious. Etta's knowledge about the area very interesting. Rooms have all you need and more. Will surely be back..
This charming lodge is well positioned for those who want to enjoy day trips to Addo Elephant Park, as well as a surprising amount of activities on the Sundays River. We spent two nights on our honeymoon in a beautiful room overlooking river, watching a flock of flamingos passing in the early hours of the morning. Do not be put off by what seems like close proximity to the N2... inside the lodge all we heard were the peaceful sounds of a variety of birdlife, and the occasional splash of a fish in the river. Due to COVID-19, the owners have had to lower their room rates, but they have not compromised on quality. We had excellent night sleeps, the best breakfast and a great tour of Addo. We hope more South Africans can enjoy a stay here.
We had a family room and really enjoyed our stay at Dungbeetle. Perfect location for Addo, with only a short drive to the Gate. The breakfast was really good with self made jams and bread. The deck was perfect for relaxing, with a refreshing breeze during the day. In the park the temperature was close to 40°, but at Dungbeetle and the saltwater river it felt like 28°. The family room was quite ok, maybe a bit too dark and old. The a/c is helpful during the night, as we needed to close the windows. For a peaceful sleep, there are too many mosquitos around. Some windows had insect screens, which will be a good investment for all windows. Anyway we would definitely come back.
Loved the experience of this guesthouse, a lovely welcome, beautiful river views, the best home cooked breakfast and very comfortable family room. We even got to avail of their Addo Safari tours. Would highly recommend both staying and getting a tour via Dungbeetle. Couldn't have asked for any more from them!
Tucked away on the banks of the Sunday's River, this lodge has its own landing from which you can depart on a private river cruise. The lodge also operates a custom made safari vehicle that takes you on full day guided tour into the Addo Elephant National Park. The rooms are spacious and well appointed, but make sure you book in time to secure one that overlooks the river. The breakfast is best taken on the terrace if weather permitting.
