Happy Jackal Guest House

What an amazing experience! We planned a family Christmas at Happy Jackel. From the moment we made the booking until the day we checked out we received the most amazing service. The location is ideally situated next to the river and the accommodation very homely and comfortable. With her attention to detail and hospitality Suzette is the perfect host. I can highly recommend the lodge for a get away.

The location is of the place is very nice, close to the park, however, the actual accommodation functions as a backpacker. We stayed in the "signature" room but it did not feel like it. The view from the balcony is obstructed. The is no ironing facilities available if you are staying over the weekend, there's no microwaves and plates available in the lodge or make it possible to have food in your room if you decide to have lunch/dinner in your room. This place was just so disappointing. If only they can work on improving basic amenities for the guests the experience would have been more positive.

Suzette our hostess at Happy Jackaland Tim our tour guide were brilliant. We stayed in Davenport House for two nights and I day spent in Addo Elephant Park with Tim. Breakfasts at Happy Jackal were amazing and the house was totally awesome. A big thank you to you both for our memorable stay. Would stay here again if possible.

Love the Happy Jackal. We had a great self catering cottage with an awesome built in braai. It was thoughtful and had everything we need. There is a river you can swim in and kayak in. The fruit trees are awesome. Addo Elephant Park is super close. About 30 min drive to the hub of Port Elizabeth. Its also close to the beach. We also hiked Zuurberg Trail one day which was incredible. It's about 12km with a steep uphill; but the forest, natural pools and views are totally worth it. I'd come back for the great accommodation and the awesome activities in the area!

Had a great time here. Host was very friendly and helpful, gave us an update every morning about what was happening in the area etc. Best bed I've slept in, including my one at home.Rooms: 5/5

The rooms were very clean and extremely comfortable. The breakfast was fantastic and the owners made you feel at home and will bend over backwards to ensure your comfort.Rooms: 5/5

A great place to stay if you want to be close to the Addo Elephant Park entrance gate to the south. We stayed in the two bedroom garden cottage which is well equipped and very comfortable. Good quality linen and a modern large bathroom.Rooms: 4/5

Peter is so welcoming, a true gent. Our rooms are perfect. Everything we could need. Liz has the most amazing sense of humour and makes you feel right at home. Even our teenage son thought she was awesome!! Breakfast is great and a super start to the day '

A delightful place to stay and rest with our teenage family for a couple of days game viewing at Addo. The rooms are very well appointed with great attention to detail and comfort. The breakfast is fit for a king, again with personal detail, home made jams, fresh warm bread, free range eggs ... and options to accommodate all tastes. It is worth bearing in mind the that there are only a couple of options close by for an evening meal in this area. Many thanks Liz & Peter for your consideration to our comfort. Liz and Pieter are excellent hosts - from the warm welcome to the homemade bread, everything was perfect. After a rough couple of days and a long drive from Durban to PE, the room was everything we hoped for. It's the kind of guesthouse where you won't mind staying in all day. It's a very short drive to the Matyholweni gate of the Addo Elephant Park, and a good spot from which to visit Nelson Mandela Bay. Happy Jackal is situated on the bank of Sunday's River - great for swimming and canoeing; it was too windy for us to enjoy it, but a great summer option. Liz really is the hostess with the mostess - from her vibrant disposition to her generous nature, we really would have loved to stay longer.
