It has a vintage feel to it, very clean. Quite a few monkey's there, that made me so uncomfortable. The monkey's didnt bother us though. It was fairly clean, I'd say the upkeep is as good as it could possibly considering the municipality as a whole never takes care of anything, but its much better than most parks.
It has really changed alot since Covid Not very well kept The walkway bridges are not easily accessible but still a great place for family and friends to hand out for the day
An absolutely lovely park for relaxation and picnics.
Peaceful place to be, you get to see and smell nature, see happy families, overall it's a great place to chill with friends and family at low costs.
Spent Easter Sunday with my awesome family and friends. Decided on a good old fashioned picnic braai out in the park...and I am happy to say, so did many other families. Durbanites came together at Japanese Gardens creating a wonderfully chilled, yet fun filled vibe...the background music, laughter and games people played, mingled with the different food aromas from the surrounding picnic spots...all set against the backdrop of the Japanese themed garden...reflected the Wonderful cultural melting pot of Durban. After a recent spate of negative publicity, Durbanites stepped up and stepped out and sparkled....even Mother Nature was impressed and held back on the showers of blessing until later that night. The Japanese Gardens are well maintained and very welcoming to day visitors. Whether you decide to picnic, or walkabout...it is an ideal and safe venue. Definitely on my return to list. Playground: Kids can run wild Restrooms: Available, but need to be tidied regularly. Picnic area: Ample space. Suitable and lots of shaded spots...table and benches also available at some spots.
Japanese Gardens is a Great place to relax, read a book or let the kids run freely. Ample free parking, although wheel chair accessible, it's a bit hilly, only one play area with wooden swings which is close to the parking lot and is not fenced off. Too many monkeys which may spoil a picnic if they can. Many areas of the park have been neglected. Ponds have dirt in them, hedges and bushes overgrown or ripped out and left aside , litter accumulated at certain spots and not picked up, and overall poor maintainance of the park. Perfect blend of shade and sunshine and very peaceful once you've found the right spot !
Overall beautiful, clean, present and enjoyable. Ideal outing for a picnicking, family and kids, swings and bits to keep the kids busy while dad is doing a braai or potjie.
The place met our expectations indeed, we really enjoyed the walk we had in this place and surely we coming back to explore more and wow we loved the fish dam with Gold, yellow and red fish yoooh the way they jump when fed them was so lovely
The Japanese garden was beautiful, it was not packed and there were many scenic spots with seating available. A lovely picnic or braai would be great. There were small lakes with beautiful bridges. It was very large and more could be added to the landscape however it was still an enjoyable walk. Monkeys, birds and ducks were present, beautiful lanterns and gateways. It was clean however there was litter present in the lakes that ought to be cleaned. The bathrooms were clean but need a lot of maintenance.
This is a beautiful park with lovely facilities. Plenty of seating areas where you can braai or picnic. You get to see the fish as well as ducks and sometimes monkeys. It's always a lovely experience. My family and I have been going here for so many years now and still love it.
