Had dinner here this evening for six of us. Our waiter Jona was amazing. Helpful, knowledgeable, attentive and very pleasant. Thank you Jona for your great service. The food was amazing. For starters between us we had the Falkland calamari tubes, succulent firm but not rubbery with a lemon butter sauce. King prawns done to perfection with a lemon butter sauce. Salmon Tartar also delicious. A stunning 14 piece sushi platter. The food is all immaculately presented and delivered in good time. For the main dish we had the Linefish of the day, Kabeljou which impressed our overseas visitors immensely and was delicious, we had the kingship, a very tasty queen prawns, and a green salad, all well presented and mouth-wateringly delicious. Matched with Babylonstoren Chenin Blanc wine and Bouchard unwooded Chardonnay. An amazing evening of culinary delights. Also amazing to see when loadshedding kicked in and there was darkness for about 5 minutes that the waiters did not lose step and continued as normal with various patrons using their cellphone torches until the generator kicked in. Well done team The Fishmonger. I rate this 10/10 for food and 10/10 for amazing service. A very pleasant dining experience and will definitely return when next in Jhb.
Finally some fantastic prawns : a brilliant selection of very fresh fish and shellfish. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was top class. Thank you for a great night out.
I’ve never experienced a fine dining restaurant that sounded worst then a fish market on a busy day. The floors were slippery and the shouting from the staff made the experience really not a good experience. My garlic mussel starter tasted like warm water and fish and nothing special about it. The place in which we were seated had the staff constantly bumping us as they scurried along with orders. Making our meal really impossible to enjoy. A dirty table cloth when we arrived.
It was our first time at Fishermonger Illovo. We were amazed by the way Denise treated us. He made sure that we were so comfortable. He went extra miles to give us the best service. It was an outstanding experience. We will definitely go back. He is a big asset to the company. The food was amazing too!Food: 5/5
Fantastic while grilled fish and excellent service. Only gripe and I am aware of loadshedding is that the restaurant is exceptionally hot with all the doors open. Other than that. This is the best fish place in Joburg!Food: 5/5

If there were more stars I would add an extra 2!! My best restaurant experience in years!!! Management is very hands on and attentive to every little detail, the ambience was great, our waiter Dawit was world class, and lastly the food and wine was impeccable!!! Well done to the team and compliments to the Chef!!! 7 Stars!!!Food: 5/5
We arrived just before the lunch time rush. At that point there was not enough tables. We were asked to wait a few minutes. During that time a new table was quickly set up and we were seated. The seafood was great value for money. The sushi was a bit disappointing regarding flavour and technique. Service was quick and our waiter was on top of things. Due to the demand for tables every thing was done a speed and as a result the whole meal felt rushed. Overall good experience but would book a table next time.
This is one of my favourite restaurants to visit casually. The atmosphere is peaceful and there’s a great view. The best part is definitely the customer service. The team are excellent. Food: 5/5
Food is delicious and while the meals are not cheap, it is fish and the portions are big! Attention to detail is good, service wonderful. Everyone was friendly and made us feel very well looked after. A wonderful lunch. Kid-friendliness: I was pleasantly surprised. The managers chatted to the kids throughout the meal, they received lucky packets on arrival and there was the option to have their meals brought early.
