What a fantastic trip. Michael and Sharon were so lovely and really made our stay pleasant and enjoyable. Incredible views, comfortable cabins, and lots of wonderful walking and hiking paths. Thank you, Gecko Rock staff for such an amazing stay!Rooms: 5/5
What a stunning getaway location. We stayed at the Echo Valley campsite, which was completely private and beautiful. The shower wasn't hot, but the little plunge pool was awesome! The road getting in was quite rough. I wouldn't attempt it in a small city car, unless you don't love your undercarriage. In terms of climbing, there are some crags withing walking distance from the campsite. We climbed at Gecko Crag and Tsunami wall, and both were in the sun from early on winter. Non of the rock here runs horizontally, so don't expect easy, straight-forward climbing. Tsunami wall has an awesome base for picnics.
Such an awesome place to visit. The Deal family who own it are a great bunch of people and will make you feel welcome. Just be sure to bring a vehicle with a higher ground clearance than the average car like a bakkie or SUV since you need to do quite a bit of driving on dirt and gravel roads. Rooms: I stayed in one of the 5 sleeper cabins and it was very comfortable and well furnished. Nearby activities: Hiking trails, rock climbing, camping and shooting ranges are available Safety: The game reserve and accommodation are within a safe and enclosed area. Cabins had for extinguishers available too Walkability: There are some trails up can walk or run along Noteworthy details: The reserve is also home to Zero Points Down Shooting Academy. They have a nice range setup and offer courses ranging from sport shooting to tactical focused ones.
it’s always an amazing experience at gecko rock whether it’s staying for a night or a getaway for the holidays and the views are breathtaking. i would highly recommend it. thank you gecko rock.Rooms: 5/5
So glad we discovered Gecko rock private reserve! Amazing people! Amazing place! Can't wait to visit again!!Rooms: 5/5
This is a magic place. Literally in the middle of nowhere and a great place to get away from it. We only tapped the surface on what this place offers, so let me summarize it in a unique nature experience, serenity and calm. We will be back. The only shame was that I never get to meet Sharon. Word from a tourist. If you are not an experienced off road driver I would recommend going with a SUV or at least a higher car. The recent rains made traveling the final kilometers interesting
This is a great place for any camping enthusiast. Gecko Rock is very quiet and has everything the Karoo can offer, from quiet days to starry nights. The camp sites are a bit close to one another so hopefully you have neighbors that share the same love for peace & quiet. Other activities include hiking, biking, shooting and off-roading. Rooms: The smalle cottages at the campsite has 6 beds in one room with split shower and WC facilities. The kitchens are well equipped and the braais are in good condition. Noteworthy details: This is a quiet place to enjoy, and rules are strict to ensure everyone can enjoy it.
Had such a fun and amazing experience! The view is Fantastic, the staff is great and the trails is an experience and a half! I would definitely recommend this place.Rooms: 5/5
Have been twice and both times have been welcomed by Sharon with a hearty welcome. We have camped and stayed in a cabin, both of which offered their own unique experience. The hiking is wonderful and there is so much to discover, we even sighted Gemsbok! A tranquil, relaxing setting off the grid that offers a getaway that revives the soul.
Personal experience was ok, but I will never go there again. Felt uncomfortable and a little irritated when we discussed the ablutions not being private to be told that we "are out of our comfort zone." There was no attempt to put me at ease or to try to fix my concerns. The shooting range offered was daylight robbery with their prices, and the facility is really basic. The basic drive took us 5 hours to drive but in their defence, we were 13 cars but when we wanted a communal braai, we found that we had no lapa to sit under and no lighting so when it got dark, you supply your own lighting or simply experience a blackout. The lapa was not a necessity, of course, when it was cold with a light drizzle, making it imperative to have an undercover facility so you can spend time together with your friends.
