Well, it's a complete family resort with additional game drive / safari. There is an outdoor playground with a slide and swing, giant chess and putting green for kids. Additionally, kids club is available whereby you can leave your kid there with some kids club officers. Adults can also swim and do sunbathing. Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast buffet are included. The game drive is good because you can see the animal very close. However, don't expect it to be a real safari with wild animals like in the Kruger National Park because the animals here are rescued and tamed. Afternoon game drive will be around 2.5 hours while morning game drive will be around 1.5 hours. The food is also generally good. However, the cleanliness of Standard Lodge Room can be improved. There are a lot of hairs on the bed and floor. The bathroom is also small. Playground: There is an outdoor playground with a slide and swing, giant chess and putting green. Aquila might seem expensive, but taking into account what you get for your money, it is totally worth it. It is all inclusive. All meals and 2 game drives daily. All drinks and spa treatments are for your own account. We saw 4 out of the big 5 ,close up. Staff are exceptional and the grounds are kept in tip -top shape during the day. There is a warm and cold inside pool at the spa plus 2 cold outdoor pools. The bid pool also has a pool bar with seating inside the pool area. The facilities are all upgraded and modern with an African touch. There is also a lounge bar above the diving room. There are many activities for kids to give parents a well deserved alone time. Also wheelchair friendly. We highly recommend Aquila! 5 stars all round.
We visited Aquila for an overnight stay and two game drives. Overall our experience with Aquila was pleasant. The staff was very flexible and efficient. Despite us arriving late and missing half of the program they quickly agreed to rebook us for the next day drives and meals without any extra charge. The cottages and the communal spaces are well designed and maintained. Food was good both in terms of variety and quantity. The weakest point of Aquila are the game drives themselves. The park is tiny and heavily managed. Most of the animals are away from their natural habitat and have to be regularly fed by the staff. The experience of wildlife viewing is far from natural. There is no sustainable ecosystem there and no thrill of looking for the animals. The guides know exactly where the animals are, food is distributed to keep them visible and close. So the decision to visit or not really depends on the level of commitment one has for game viewing. It can be a quick and comfortable solution for seeing interesting animals for those with very little time. Also probably nice for families with kids who might find long game drives difficult . But those who are interested in more natural game viewing, other parks offer much better experiences.
Good place to hang around for few hours! Good for a half day safari! Not for again and again. Food is good but for non vegan! Vegan food taste was bit different for Indians. However safari was good and enjoyable! We saw lions / elephants / zebra / giraffe/ buffalo / rhino / hippo etc!
It was awesome! We checked in at 2 o’clock and went to the spa - it’s lovely, calm and super enjoyable. Afterwards we had our game drive with Steve best guide I ever had on a safari!! The safari took about 2.5 hrs and we’ve seen lions, elephant, rhinos giraffes, zebras and many others. It was very educational, Steve knew everything about the animals. Dinner was also good, buffet but also vegan stuff and desert was great. In the morning we had another game drive which was brilliant as well. Breakfast was more than you need! Don’t understand people complaining. They had everything you can ask for. Only thing I didn’t like is you had to pay for Drinks. An all inclusive package would be cool!
Visited in winter time for the weekend and while the temperature dropped to under 5 degrees Celsius it was an absolute pleasure to be there. Friendly staff, great meals and creative tour guides on the game drive! A ton of extra blankets were provided and our cottage was furnished with a fire place. Highly recommend!
Aquila is a great preserve close to Capetown to see the animals outside cages. The accommodations are great and the food is also good. Please be aware that this is a preserve and animals are feed, so they are not in the wild. We enjoyed our stay and Bheki was extremely helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed a full day at the spa that was super relaxing with a very attentive staff. What is holding this place from being epic and amazing is courtesy training for some of the staff especially in the restaurant and a few more animals.
Aquila Game Reserve was amazing! They picked us up from Camps Bay, when we arrived we were greeted with a glass of sparkling wine and then taken to a buffet breakfast. When we headed off to the game reserve, our driver was very knowledgeable and friendly. I had no idea they had as many animals as they had and so much land for them to roam around. We had such a good time that when we visit South Africa again, we will be booking this for a second time! We also used the spa facilities and had a really nice massage, easy to book and reasonable price!
This weekend, I set off to enjoy Aquila, which is set into the Karoo - just 2 hours drive from Cape Town. It is a private game reserve that offers a bit of a taste of Africa. Their experiences include safari drives featuring the famed Big Five and some of the Beautiful Five and Ugly Five animals, as well as one or two of the Small Five, and it is an ideal once in a lifetime pick for families. Aquila caters for families, among its clientele - welcoming to kids of all ages, and they have incredible meals on offer too. They have an upstairs bar, which overlooks the water hole; And if you are lucky, you may see some elephants, or Giraffes coming down to drink water. In summer, Aquila has a pool-style bar, which is honestly perfect for the warm weather days. Additionally, they offer an exceptional experience where visitors can gather around the telescope, to take a journey to watch the stars. Not to mention, the accommodation is varied - with you being able to choose between rock cottages or wooden cottages. And they are all equipped with air conditioning. The property also includes a wonderful children's play and entertainment area. The highlight of the tour at Aquila though: is the Eco synergy award-winning project, which just relocated outside the entrance, and which helps reduce Aquila's carbon footprint. Definitely a thumbs up for taking the entire family on a fun adventure, or even for those wanting a quick weekend break to enjoy what's on offer. Insider Tip: Definitely see if you can get Maxwell as your guide, because he makes it highly entertaining for the youngsters to experience the safari drive.
Really good that it's so close to Cape Town! Perfect for a day visit, or perhaps one night's stay, but not more than that I would say. The area is quite small, and it's not worth going on several of the safari tours as it's just the same thing every time. It's not quite a safari either, it feels more like driving through a very large zoo. The animals are fed just around the times that the safari drives are planned, which on the plus side means you are very likely to see all their animals! But on the negative side, the whole thing seems very orchestrated and not very real. The rooms/villas are definitely not 4 star - maybe 2 star. The cleanliness could have been better too. In our villa k c 30, it took over a minute to get hot water after the tap was on. Still - fun to see animals! Playground: A whole fenced play area with babysitting for a fee
