Sad really. The place has potential but is poorly maintained. Pleased to say the staff were very friendly and helpful. Very uncomfortable beds. Living spaces Not clean AT ALL. Bathrooms really not clean! Couches in the clubhouse not fit for paying guests. Bedding and towels not too clean either. Crazy amount of rodent poop, flies and mosquitoes. Definitely NOT Sedan friendly. We were lucky that a family member with 4x4 could unload our car and take our passengers up to and from the site to prevent us getting stuck. I would not consider it to be family friendly. Perhaps fit for purpose for a bunch of guys who want to 4x4 and braai/party?? Not for us. We will not be returning. Rooms: Would have been nice to be able to lock our door at night. Window blinds broken so we were bothered/kept awake by outdoor lights. Sky visible through the holes in the thatch. Thank goodness it didn't rain. Also pleased I took my own pillow and towels. Safety: Very much doubt it the electrics are legal in the chalets. Exposed wires in the bathroom were just one of many questionable issues. I think that smoke alarms in the thatch chalets should be a prerequisite!
My experience was about a year ago. The road up to the lodge is not made for a hatchback or sedan. Preferably go with a 4x4. The road basically cracked my axel of my car because of all the rocks/stones that was in the road. There was a rat in the place running around all night. Also the bedding had rat bitten holes in it. We booked for 2 nights only stayed one night. The place is not well maintained. I think if they should maintain the place it will be much better. Also the pool was dirty. However the guy that works on the place is quite nice If you a person that love nature then you will like it but if you a person that hates rats flies and like the modern look of a holiday then stay away.
I recently had the absolute pleasure of spending some quality time at Impangele Mountain Lodge and all I can say is "WOW"!!! The setting was unbelievable, the views truly amazing, the accommodation was more than comfortable, but the hospitality and service was truly out of the top draw. I have traveled to many remote areas, but what really blew me away completely were the hosts / management team, Connor & Amelie. It has been a long time since I met such enthusiastic and passionate individuals... Kudos to you guys for an unbelievably incredible stay... As Arnold once said "I'll definitely be back"!
What an awesome getaway! Every unit sleeps 4 people comfortably, stove, microwave, fridge, braai... love that it’s extremely pet friendly and beach pool, with a lovely clubhouse! There are only 5 units, so you can get together with friends and book the whole place for an awesome party! Definitely going back!
While the dirt road might prove a challenge to low cars, even cars with basic clearance can move their way up to this hidden gem. With stunning views and well equipped facilities this is an excellent place to go away for medium size vacations with friends and family.
We booked two thatched chalets for a birthday for one night and had a super time in this rustic mountain lodge which overlooks scenic farmlands and allowed us to relax and simply enjoy the beauty and the occasion : swimming, braaiing, dancing and chilling. Elphas the caretaker is helpful and we felt safe as there is an alarm and he lives nearby. The road up to the lodge is quite hectic and a 4x2 or 4 is probably recommended, although there were normal sedan vehicles up there. We should have booked for two nights to really make the most of the lodge, but we intend to go back in the future. Excellent value for money
Loved our 4 night stay. The views are stunning across the entire Hex river valley. We had beautiful weather, and awesome sunrises and sunsets. Its a place for nature lovers - fascinating Karroo vegetation and great hiking and mountain bike trails. Highly recommend the historical 2 tunnel trail - quite long 20 kms there and back but well worth it. Some ups and downs but mostly next to old railway tracks so the gradient is gentle. There are also some 4 x 4 trails. The access road is a long gravel road so don't plan on heading to town every day! Normal cars are fine but in places you need to take it slow and easy and enjoy the ride and the views The huts are cool and comfortable with all you need for 4 people. The beds were good - we did have mosquitoes at night so take some repellent! The clubhouse has a beautiful cool pool and facilities to braai, gas oven/stove, fridge etc to cater for groups booking out the entire facility 20 plus
An excellent rustic budget getaway with welcoming and accommodating hosts, Connor and Amelie. We received such a warm reception from you guys. Unfortunately, we could only stay for one night but we'll definitely be back.
We had a lovely three days at Impangele Mountain Lodge in October 2020. The site and self catering chalet was neat and clean, but not upmarket and suited for people who like the outdoors. The setting is beautiful and peaceful with magnificent views. I saw about 4 or 5 chalets. Booking by Whatsup was easy and Rosemary always answered all my whatsup messages with clear instructions. The caretaker on duty Elphas was very friendly and helpful. You must ride slowly on the gravel road and I went with my car. Before you take the trip up the mountain make sure you visit the Veldskoen Padstal. Take everything you need because once there it is best to stay where you are as the trip down the mountain takes 30 minutes.
Beautiful and tranquil location. Fresh water pool. Grounds are well kept. The chalet could've been cleaned slightly better for us as the next guests. The admins you book with aren't there, but the Groundsman/Caretaker is always accessible and seems a nice guy. Be prepared to sleep with huge lizards in the chalet you may find fresh droppings on the floor in the morning!. The drive up can be a bit nerve-wracking as it's up a sloped mountain road, mostly only wide enough for 1 vehicle although we managed with a light hatchback. An amazing escape for our family.
