My review is based solely on the restaurant which is the only aspect of High Grove that we went to. The meal selection is wide ranging and very affordable. I was initially a bit dubious but it turned out to be one of the best places I have eaten at in quite some time. Definitely a hidden gem in the small town of Tzaneen. I would highly recommend and will be visiting again.
Rooms are comfortable and neat. Manager is trying his best but can't make any decisions without the owner's approval who is living in Cape Town. Prices on the rooms went up since we last slept over at Highgrove a week ago. Not negotiable. Wanted to sleep over for longer at a better price but we were refused. Rooms: Neat and clean but not worth the increased price. The blinds in the bathrooms are old and broken and it gives a "don't care" feeling to this supposedly 4 star establishment. Noteworthy details: A cockroach was crawling on my partner and also on the bar counter. Was too grossed out to eat here and had to go to town to look for an alternative place to eat
I placed an order for a 500g rump at 18:45, had a couple of beers and my food just never came. By 21:30 I was fed up of waiting so asked where my food was and the waiter said he had forgot about it. I asked for my drinks bill and left, had to get take aways on my way home. Absolutely terrible service. Inside the bar area is stuffy and hot as they don't turn on the fans or aircon.
The managers know how to run a bar/tavern but not necessarily a restaurant. The food is okay if it eventually gets served. Walked in and out a couple of times without any food. Second time around was because the manager didn't order their pizza boxes in time well at least that's what the waiters said. Service: 2/5

Their service was so poor. The food were half cooked. When i asked the waiter to at least return the food so it can be cooked properly... the food came back burned. Please improve.
