What an amazing experience. The wines are quite pricy but outstanding quality and quite unique varietals. The food is top class. To eat, my wife & I had the kudu carpaccio & mains was beef fillet and exotic mushroom risotto. But the bight was most definitely the chocolate fondant.
Amazing restaurabt with great service and great food. Were there for the breakfast service. Will definitely visit again soon, this time for lunch. Please note: allow for extra driving time once you turn off out of Sir Lowry's Pass Town - it is a 40km/h type of drive, with lots of speed bumps, dips, two rail crossings and some single lane driving. Road is in very good condition, but the above-mentioned obviously just makes the drive a little longer, as you cannot navigate that part of the road at a normal speed.
We love visiting this restaurant as it is close to home here in Sir Lowry’s Pass. A long scenic drive from the main road ends at a beautiful modern building with lovely gardens and spectacular views of the mountains and over Gordons Bay and Strand. Food is always delicious, whether you eat the menu choices or pizzas. Service is friendly and waiters are knowledgeable about their wines. I can highly recommend the restaurant.
Wow, what an amazing setting. Perfect weather today too. Looks magical with low clouds and foliage washed clean after the rain. Our server Arnold was amazing and made our 23rd wedding anniversary breakfast special! Parking: Ample parking
What a beautiful setting! Phenomenal view. Everything was of outstanding quality. Staff approachable and knowledgeable. Great meal. Now my second favourite wine estate in the area.Food: 5/5
If you're looking for a restaurant with an amazing view, look no further than Idiom. Perched high up in St Lowries Pass mountain range, the restaurant offers a breathtaking view of Gordons bay, strand and the whole Somerset west all in one eyeshot. The view alone is worth the trip, but Idiom offers so much more. The staff at Idiom are well-trained and very friendly, but on busy days they may be a bit understaffed, which can lead to a rushed experience. However, the level of service is still exceptional, even when they're busy. The restaurant itself is elegant and screams sophistication. The wine bar, although a bit tiny, offers a great selection of Italian grape varieties grown locally, which any wine enthusiast should try. And, of course, the food is absolutely spectacular. The plates are expertly crafted and the flavors are mouth-watering. Although the prices at Idiom are a bit steep, they are reasonable for the quality of food, setting, and service. It's definitely not a restaurant for people on a student budget, but if you're looking for a special occasion spot or just want to indulge, Idiom is the perfect choice. One thing to note is that the coffee is prepared by the waiter who serves you, which may result in an inconsistent cup. However, if you're a fan of Illy beans, you'll be happy to know that they're used at Idiom. Overall, Idiom is a must-visit restaurant for anyone looking for a combination of great food, exceptional service, and a stunning view. Just be prepared to pay a bit more than your average dining experience.
Recently went to Idiom for breakfast followed by wine tasting. The breakfast was great, the service impeccable and the wine's delicious. It is a very modern wine farm, but has an old world feel about it. The view was exceptional. The only down side was the quite long and in some places very slow drive. Otherwise it was a great experience.
Mama Mia, such a unforgettable experience. Perfect view, wines, and food experience. Italy in the middle of stellenbosch wine land with a magnificent view of the sea. Us a guest, the staff and owner made feel like a part of the family. I will definitely visit again.
Stylish, contempo meets country side done with style and signature. Nothing generic about this place. Everything from the craftsmanship and plating of the foods, the landscape and the skill of the waiter to serve in the fine dinning way, was done to my satisfaction. Will be back.
Idiom Vineyards is known for their high quality wines. Part of the Idiom experience is the drive from the gate to the tasting room/restaurant which is a relaxing drive of just under 3km. As you climb the mountain you get beautiful scenic views around you and even cross two railroads. The main building in which the tasting room and restaurant is located is beautiful and modern, with great views of the bay far down below. Although the restaurant capitalizes more on what the building has to offer and the tasting area seems like a bit of an afterthought, the wines and staff make the experience worth it. It is good to note that the tasting area is around a bar island, so I wouldn't recommend a tasting at Idiom if you are a large group. They have 2 wine tasting options to choose from, with one focusing on their more entry level wines and the other on their premium wines. The guy that did our tasting, Johan, was extremely knowledgeable and just put the cherry on-top of the entire experience. Their wines are a bit more on the expensive side however well worth a try, and the vineyard is a must visit if in the area.
