John Dorys Fish, Grill, Sushi - Kathu

Recently under new management. Hope this picks up the service on the smaller detail. On our last visit the ladies bathroom was really in a bad state whcih wasn't previously an issue. The last two visits there were something on the menu we wanted that was not available. Previous time they had no sparkling wine which we wanted because we were celebrating an occasion. The last time it was a desert that wasn't available. On the positive side, the food is always good and the kids love the big play area. The previous time there was a lady that was exceptionally good with the kids.

Worst ever restaurant.We arrived at 7pm for the so called half price Sushi. We waited at the reception for 15min before we were noticed. After we were seated we had to carry extra chairs and tables. The waiter arrived and not very friendly. Most of the drinks we ordered was not in stock. The kids food arrived quite quickly. The wings that were ordered arrived 1 hour later. We were told at 9pm two hours later after the order was placed at 7h30pm that there was no sushi,the kitchen is busy defrosting the sushi.The salmon roses that we ordered did not have any cavair nor avo as displayed on the menu. The restaurant apparently is under new management but the staff is not well trained and the service delivery poor.

Wow! 2 of the wines I ordered were out of stock. Had to re-place our whole drinks order because staff are poorly trained. Cleared our own table after each course. The Hake and Calamari combo did not in fact come with calamari tubes as per menu but rather with strips - well, only mine apparently. And the BarOne sauce tastes like coffee... Overall food was good and we had a great laugh so I suppose it is what you make of it but service and management leaves a lot to be desired!

John Dory's Kathu does not practice the points system. They don't speak to their patrons about it, it's very much non existent. They are also unable to add your points in your card as I have been there quite a number of times. They will take your card number down and tell you that they are offline and will add your points later, which never happens. At my last visit after we ate we ordered a stake that comes with chips or veggies and an egg above the steak with onion rings. It is something on the JD menu. When we got home, the egg wasn't in the takeaway box, so the order was incomplete. Apart from the concerns I mentioned above, their food is delicious. Tender steaks, mouthwatering fish dishes, and their veggies are always on point..just delicious..

Good day! On the 4/8/2019 . We eaten at your restaurant and it was a very bad experience. We waited about 1 hour for a simple garlic roll and our food only came after. The most horrible thing was that we found plastic in our food ! I was very despoiled and I don’t think I will be eating at your restaurant again.

Not a pleasant experience. When shown to our table,we first had to ask the waitress to wipe the table. Inspite of being the only clients in the smoking section, other tables had not been cleared after previous clients left. Waited a long time for our meals and when we finally received it,it was cold. The manager did offer us a voucher for our complaint but we declined. We will not visit John Dorys Kathu again after almost paying R200 per plate and then taking the food home to reheat.

Great sushi! Actually sushi is the only thing they should serve at this restaurant because I ordered the Sunset Platter and my son the 1/4 chicken and ribs. Yesterday's rice served with rubbery calamari, cold mussels and dead prawns with a whiff of burned oil. The ribs: air dried of all moisture accompanied with billtong chicken. Cold chips and and a wooden taste.

The sushi was not so lekker. And the service veeeery slow. Second time around...waited too long for the food. Rice was not very fresh. No one checking on us for long time, had to check walk up to cashier to look for waiter. Only star for the day was Edith, very friendly and helpful!

I am not happy at all. We came to John Dorys with our small dog, we walked on the outside of the restaurant and sat outside next to a big lawn, we were asked to leave because of health inspection reasons with the dog... The tables outside is burned up because of the sun, NOBODY ever sits outside. We are not even at the smoker's area, it is literally outside on the mall's lawn ... WTF ... A year ago we also ate there with a dog, and the staff/manager were very friendly and said we can sit outside with our dog. I wish the old manager can come back!

Very good eating experience. The waitress was very very friendly and helpful. Wasn't long before I got my food. Nice atmosphere really enjoyed my time there.
