Stayed three nights at Settlers Drift and could not have been more pleased with our stay. Josh, our guide was the highlight of our time there and was the perfect guide. Incredibly knowledgable on the flora and fauna with a clear passion to educate and pleasure to interact with. He is a true asset to Kariega. The lodge itself was such a treasure. The feeling when first pulling up and walking in will forever leave a positive memory. The tents are positioned to make it feel as though the entire valley is entirely yours. They are also very comfortable and provide all the necessities and more!. The food was also great and wonderfully prepared. The two daily drives throughout the property were such a joy and offered the opportunity to view an abundance of wildlife. I am beyond pleased with what we were able to see and the environments in which the animals are located in.
WOW, WOW WOW! Truly one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Talent was such an exceptional Guide and he taught us so much - and we saw 4 of the big 5 leopard nowhere to be found!. Food was incredible, the tents were divine although be prepared for spiders but you're in the bush right?. Thank you to the whole KRSD team - amazing.
Today we checked out of Settlers Drift with a heavy heart and still can't believe how wonderful it was to stay here. This place proves that heaven on earth really does exist. The interior of the whole course is very tasteful and indescribably beautiful. Every day the whole team makes sure that you feel very comfortable and that you are always perfectly taken care of. The food and wines are more than delicious. Kudos to our wonderful and sweet guide Josh, who stands his ground in all weather conditions and has given us some fantastic animal experiences that we will never forget. To endlessly happy days and always nice and satisfied guests.
Positives: The lodge and suites are to an excellent standard, very well maintained and site staff work hard to maintain the standard. Rangers are excellent and the safari experience is great. Two game drives a day which are very enjoyable. Negatives: our in room Internet was down for our whole stay. Selection of food for an 'all inclusive' experience is pathetic. Particularly the afternoon tea which is nothing more than a couple of sandwiches and snacks covered by flys and surrounded by uninterested staff. Evening dinner menu is small and options are all about style over substance, presented well but cooked poorly, some of the toughest lamb I have ever eaten. I really don't understand why they note dietary requirements upon arrival because they certainly weren't considered. Worst of all is their recommended tipping system, the expectation they set in their in room information was tipping rangers the equivalent of £100pp for two days worth of drives, this is after paying £1000pp for the stay. Waitresses in the lodge could do with learning how to smile. The garden route is beautiful and towards Port Elizabeth there are many safari parks, some of which offer more for your money and certainly set expectations which they live upto.
Our stay was the most beautiful experience of our lives! The level of luxury and class is unsurpassed. The game drives were totally amazing, the field guides Steph and Josh Hartt were stunning and the scenery was amazing. Settlers Drift is highly recommended. We will definitely be back.
Settler's Drift could only be improved in one way - if they could track down the Leopard!! Everything about our stay was first-class, I could not recommend staying here any more! Our guide JT was enthusiastic and knowledgeable , all of the other staff were friendly and helpful. Food and wine were amazing and the scenery is just stunning.
It was a great vacation ever , the food , room & staff ... And the environment is so relaxingRooms: 5/5
