Peaceful and absolutely beautiful surroundings. We did the easy trail. A little bit of an incline before it levels out until you get the stream flowing down the mountain. There are more strenuous trails, aided by steps and stones. Kid friendly and definitely dog friendly
Always love this walk...steady incline if you take the jeep track and quite steep if you go up the pine tree paths! Well worth it for the views. We get lost every time but that's part of the fun! Restrooms: Only at the very start of the jeep track Dog-friendliness: Lots of off leash doggies! And tons of water now to splash in. Picnic area: Near the heli pad
Newlands Forest is the most convenient way to experience the wonders of Cape Town's outdoors. The trails are relatively flat, with some variety by choice. Parking is easy and plentiful. There are lots of dogs, families, trail runners and mushroom hunters. I recommend going around sunset for the beautiful lighting which shimmers through the canopy of the pine trees.
A place where the myriad of little forest trails lead you on a new path every time. The indigenous forest trees offer lessons of nature and peace of mind. It's dog friendly and a perfect place to adventure all year round as there is plenty of shade in the summer. A few access routes to the saddle between Devil's Peak and table mountain start here as well as the fire fighting services headquarters.
This is a total hidden treat that visitors often miss. Yes, Cape Town has tons to offer but this is a very special place. A real forest in the city! Endless options of paths and intensities. Sit quietly by the river meditating or pack a picnic basket and enjoy the beauty of Cape Town and the majestic mountains.
Always enjoy a lovely walk in Newlands Forest, a great green escape close to the city. Quite a few hiking/walking trails of different lengths suited to walkers/trail runners of various fitness levels. No entry fee. Dogs allowed with a permit. Take enough water, snacks, all-weather clothing, sunscreen even though it's mostly shaded and fully charged cellphone. Best to go in a group, although I have seen solo hikers. Arrive early or hike in the afternoon to avoid parking issues.
Spectacular walks which can be as hard or easy and as long as what you choose. Never a boring day as there is so much of the forrest to explore. Spectacular views and great plant life. Always a winner for a hike. Parking available and dog friendly. Free entry Restrooms: Available Dog-friendliness: Great place to walk the dog
Amazing trail to walk...beautiful scenery, waterfalls galore...variety of plant life etc It is dog friendly, rest rooms, picnic area on the outside of the entrance. The longest trail is 1h30 minutes long
Just a magical experience, clean air and a privilege places like this still exists. If you have not done these trails make it a priority and it’s free.
Safe and secure parking and lots of trails cross crossing the forest. Nis cost for entry of parking. Main gravel roads are patrolled by rangers and SAPS. Trails are also usually quite busy throughout the day so your are not alone. AllTrails app shows some good routes to try, and there are plenty of geocaches to find too.
