I have stayed at numerous vacation spots like these and I always enjoy them. This was on the top of the list of experiences ever, fishing, climbing, hiking, horse riding and a myriad of activities not to mention their beautiful pool. Staff was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. The staff at this property are all great, they all go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. Big screens to watch matches and views to die for. Going through the trails up the mountain was so refreshing with all the trees, streams and a river pass was overwhelming to say the least. Will definitely go back someday. Thank you so much for that gem of a place.
AVOID AT ALL COST! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!! We stayed at the resort for 3 nights and where to begin. 1.I was bitten by BED BUGS all over my body!!! This is absolutely atrocious considering this is not a cheap accommodation. 2. The lakes are in a revolting state. 3. After we paid for the canoes, we got soaked as the plugs are all missing. When we told the receptionist, she just "they must be all stolen". No refund, nothing! 4. The hikes are really poorly marked. To top it all off, we emailed our concerns to and THEY HAVE NOT BOTHERED EVEN REPLYING! DISGUSTING!!!! It is a pity as the surrounds are unreal. AVOID AT ALL COST!
We are a local couple and frequently visited Dragon' peak, approximately 4 times a week. We spent R4000 to R6000 a month, after 8 years of support, in December we arrived at the gate and were told that we were not welcome, because it was holiday time. Well holiday greed comes before years of loyalty. : We now support Monks Cowl, a very pleasant and well priced restaurant.
Lunch at Dragon Peaks. Awesome food, cold beers and incredible views of the prestigious Ukahlamba National Heritage Park, renowned for both its cultural and geographic significance, as well as some of the finest hiking trails in South Africa.
The food at the restaurant was excellent and good value for money. The kids had a great time in the games room even though most of the games are out of order. The view of the mountain is really beautiful and the resort is located well. It is handy to have the onsite Oaks store which was excellent and stocked with everything you need. We really enjoyed the onsite adventure course which the kids would love to do again. The accommodation, however, was terrible. Especially if you compare the price of accommodation in the area. We paid for a 6 sleeper cabin and luckily there were only four of us, because there is not enough hot water for 4 people to shower. The shower floor does not look like it’s been cleaned in months We all showered with slops on. Whilst there is ample space to sleep, the linen is really awful if not non-existent and the towels look and feel about 20 years old. I would recommend taking your own towels, linen and pillows. There were no hangers in any of our cupboards. The living space is tiny and would not accommodate more than 4 people comfortably. The heaters were also not working / inconsistently working / noisy. The pool area has a slide, but that would require the staff to turn on the water for the slide to work. I highly doubt we will return to this accommodation, but will visit the Oaks, the Restaurant and the adventure course again.
The location in my opinion is perfect, close to everything in the central Drakensberg, shops, adventure booking, gorse riding and places to visit. This is an aging place and unfortunately not aging well, some of the places are close in the down season, it could get a little crowded with day visitors during peak season. Nearby activities: Lots of places to visit including champagne peak, dragon peak river the rivers in the area.
Really enjoyed our stay at Dragon Peaks. Lovely clean and huge studio rooms overlooking the lake towards the rear of the property - all clean, new, functional and comfortable. We loved the hikes on the property and threaded a few together to make a 2hr walk. Some caution and good footwear advised! Very nice simple meal in the bar - we ate there for both lunch and dinner. Delicious. Good selection of drinks. Staff very warm and friendly and we were grateful for an early check in. Lots to see and do nearby! Special happy mention for the on-site zebra with his horse pals and the cheeky vervet monkeys and baboons which added much to our Drakensburg adventure!
Enjoyed our stay here. It's central to most outdoor activities in the area. The room was spacious and clean.Rooms: 5/5
We checked in here on our way home and I am glad we paid a hugely discounted rate - we were searching for a view of the “peaks” which didn’t disappoint and found this resort! Food was very average but ok, the location has SO much to do for kids but is very run down… the pool slides didn’t work the fibre glass is peeling off but it’s clean which is good! The accommodation is TRRRIBLE the water that comes out the taps is filled with sand and brown the bath is cracked and you are too scared to stand invade it breaks the house is spider and insect infested and quite frankly a total let down the beds and linen are so old they seriously need an upgrade! Games room is not great and looks dirty! The pond for the canooing is full of mosquitos and quite frankly they need to fix it up would be an awesome place to build on! Don’t think we will come back in a rush! Sorry
The location, view and animals were beautiful. Enough activities to keep you occupied. The chalet its self was a disaster, the showers were filthy, you need slippers . The hot water was brown. The heaters dont work and the fire wood is very experience. The linen was old and discoloured. The entire chalet needs refurbishing. Everything is the sane from our last visit 5years ago. Will go back if they upgrade the chalets.
