The National Library of South Africa Cape Town occupies several buildings that are strewn around the center of Cape Town. The four buildings that I've seen are within a walking distance of each other. National libraries act as repositories for the work of local writers and other creative artists. In Cape Town, the main location is open to the public and easily accessible.
An educational experience for both young and old. One of the first in South Africa. It showcases many masterpieces and is a must see for all. The mother city has a beautiful history.
Went to the National Library with Friends of the Museum. It was quite an experience! I recommend a visit to anyone in or passing through Cape Town.
Excellent library for researchers and a great resource for visual materials needed for creative projects. I had help from a very skilled librarian- unfortunately I forgot his name. This is a brilliant resource if you need access to old publications for research. I needed to access women's magazines published in the 1950's/60's. After consulting with a librarian about your needs, you are directed to the area where the archives are kept. Here you can request any publication that has ever been published in SA- MAGIC!! You fill in a form and within a few minutes they arrive with your requested books/documents on a trolley. You are allowed to view this for free but checkout is obviously not allowed. Copies can be made at a minimal charge of a few cents per page. I recommend taking cash along for this purpose. This is a gem of a resource that I intend to use more frequently in future. Often we moan about governmental institutions not functioning optimally in SA, this is definitely not the case here as the staff and systems work seamlessly to serve curious citizens. Thank you NLSA!!
Excellent place if you have work or studies that need to get done without the distractions of a coffee shop. The area is neat, well lit and accessible to the public. It is rarely full and crowds of students come only around exam time. The downside of using the library is that the toilets aren't very clean and no food or water is allowed past security.
Not sure what went wrong in this place but the noise levels in the study hall has become unacceptable. From the staff especially. Libraries are not treated as a place of quiet and solitude. But we keep coming because it's slightly better than township libraries. So there
Awesome library atmosphere & experience. Clean and helpful staff.
Helpful Librarian Useful Material Pleasantly quiet and clean Toilet for ladies needs a little TLC
It has the best service I've seen, I'm in love with that prestigious institution!
Couldn't access hardly any books, it looked like the place was under renovation half the shelves were empty. It took longer to sign in with Covid protocols than it did to look around.
