Think 'Alice in Wonderland’; think 'Under the Sea’. Think a mad collection of knick knacks filling a brightly painted and fairy lit intimate little living room complete with wooden floor & a piano - that’s The Octopus’ Garden in St James. Lazy summer Saturdays and Sundays, live music, burlesque. Beautiful garden for the children to play on the organic jungle gym and treehouse while parents eat and drink.
If you feel a wee bit amorous or oddly captivated by your dining partner during or after a meal with us, we do apologise, but our cooking incorporates the odd aphrodisiac & HUGE quantities of love!

Staff members were really friendly and welcoming! Definitely a restaurant that gives off Japanese culture vibes with the decorations, and the heated toilet seats. I would say the food is on the pricier side but still worth a try. The art sashimi was cool because u could choose the amount that u wanted to spend and the chef would create the sashimi based on ur spending preference. I did $80 per person which was the average spending.
I have been occasionally coming to Octopus Garden for 7 years now. They have always had the highest quality fish and amazing specials. Their menu changes depending on what they have as well so you always get the freshest ingredients. Their waiters are extremely helpful with the ordering process and explaining all the dishes. This is definitely a higher priced place, but you pay for the quality and the service. For my meal. We got a la carte nigiri. We had salmon, spot prawns, blue fin Chutoro, blue fin otoro, and some other fish. We also got a sashimi platter they allow you to price the platter however you want. The raw fish quality was stellar and the sashimi platter was well worth it. We also had their special miso soy scallops and fried tiny crabs. The dessert was very yummy as well.
Exceptional and exquisite: every single item we tried blew our minds. Every single time we thought this couldn’t get any better, it did. The Chef, Sada, and the whole staff were incredibly welcoming and kind. Amazing food, fantastic service and one of the best experiences ever. The quality of the food can’t be beaten. It’s expensive but for that quality it’s justified, especially if you’re celebrating a birthday! The sashimi platter, uni sashimi box, the Japanese lobster & the Foie Gras Chawanmushi are a definite must!

Wonderful service, amazing atmosphere, but most importantly, the food was out of this world!! Seriously. Would highly recommend this place for any sushi lovers.

Very fresh sashimi and the nigiri was delicious. Only negative thing I have to say is that they try to upsell you way too much stuff the moment you sit down. It’s kind of overwhelming.
I won't lie, I ditched the kids to eat here and it was amazing the food is amazing. Highly recommend coming here if you can splurge! The sashimi is so fresh and sweet, definitely one of the best in Vancouver if not the best. The quality of all the food here are top notch and the taste is impeccable.
Fish has always been hit and miss with me. We had many different kinds of fish tonight and none tasted fishy or had bad texture which means everything was very fresh. Service was excellent. The restaurant is rather small so best to make reso's before going. Parking can be a bit of a challenge because it is close to the beach but we were lucky to find a good spot a block down. I would be aware of the parking signs to avoid getting ticketed.
Great experience through and through. We left a voice message requesting a reservation on a day the restaurant was closed and recieved a prompt phone call the following day to confirm our seating. The food was amazing! So fresh and high quality and definitely worth the price. The uni don in particular was prepared beautifully and the Hokkaido uni was simply out of this world. The ambiance was warm and inviting, the servers attentive and friendly. They were able to accomodate a gluten allergy with care. We're so happy to have found this place and would recommend it to anyone looking to splurge a little for a special occcasion.
