I applied for visas for SA passports and got them in 5 working days. However, be prepared to deal with the rude and difficult guy at the front desk, who delights in his power over the hapless supplicants seeking information. If your paperwork is 100% as per the website specs, you will get the visa no problem. I have been told that no-one with a legitimate application ever gets refused.
I suggest phoning before going in to find out who is working that day. Martin is one of the most spiteful people I have ever met. He should be fired. I feel sorry for those who work around him. I left the place in tears. Horrible man.
Just called in during their lunch break but a lady did pickup anyway. Very polite and answered all the question I asked. I felt welcomed.
If I could, I'd give it 0 stars. I went in on Tuesday to get information for a visa application. The guy at the front desk seemed helpful and gave me the forms I needed to apply. He couldn't tell me any of the process that one would have to go through once arriving in Japan. I think that's something they should be able to inform people of. Then later after doing my own research I found out that the visa would only allow me to stay for 15 days after this staff member said 3 months. I also called the Joburg Visa section and was informed that nobody could visit/apply for a visa yet unless you have family members or a spouse in Japan. This is very unprofessional behaviour and giving the Japanese consulate an unbelievably bad look.
That old man at the front was really unhelpful and acts as though he doesn't get paid enough to do that job. He does not seem as though he cares if your application is seen to or not. He needs to be removed or retrained on proper customer service.
Very friendly staff, very accommodating overall, but older gentleman at the counter leaves some decorum to be desired.
If I could give it 0 stars, I would. I phoned with a query and the person I spoke to was condescending and unhelpful, he kept interrupting me and was rude. He kept repeating the same things over and over again telling me that I wasn’t listening and then giving me an answer that wasn’t relevant to the question I’d asked. When I asked for the question to be answered they kept giving me the same answer that was irrelevant to the question. When I started to get annoyed at the lack of helpfulness, they hung up on me. I just wanted to get information on visas because I think Japan is a wonderful country and would like to visit. This service was truly atrocious and I hope the person I spoke to gets fired. Truly unacceptable behaviour.
The old man at the front desk was extremely rude and not very helpful. Constantly give me attitude. He also told me that the consulate will not get back to me and that I’ll have to call them to find out if my documents are ready. I would give a lower rating if it was possible.
There is some crazy old man that at the front desk, very rude and unhelpful person. He tries to be as spiteful as he can.
The Embassy services really improved in the past 3 months and emails are answered immediately, thank you for the good service
