Dear Red Cross Children Hospital and Dr Damian Smith, Thank you for your help with my daughter it's always a great pleasure to visit I always feel at ease with every visit you guys are truly amazing always calling to follow up, I wish that every hospital and team can be as great as yours!! May you all stay blessed.
My wife and arrived at the hospital about 20h30 with my granddaughter and her mom. Only mom was permitted to accompany child - understood this that ward should not be crowded. However, when we asked the security guard where we could sit and wait we were told "outside". There was a comfortable waiting area inside but she refused to let us in there and told us that the only waiting area was in the main hospital but that it, too was closed. There were a number of other people standing outside in the cold as the security guard would not let them in to the waiting area. I am a retired medical professor from UCT and did part of my training at this hospital. I am totally shocked that management does not allow people to use the waiting area to wait for their relatives. I note other similar complaints on these pages and hope that management sees them and does something about it.
Hospitals often mark central points in peoples lives and as such should focus not only on recruiting the best staff possible in their respective roles but also train up their entire compliment of staff to care not only about the health and well being of patients and their families but also provide comfort and peace of mind to those already distressed. I fully understand the pressure we deal with on a daily basis but as far as going out of your way to be rude, cold and unhelpful especially where concerned parents and family members are concerned in my opinion constitutes a crime against humanity. This new, colder, filthier Red Cross Hospital with its ridiculous hard and fast rule excluding all but one parent from their suffering child's bedside regardless of the extent of the trauma is by far the ugliest rule that security and supposed "care" staff alike are so eager to enforce. I would seriously recommend that this hospital administration look at being more humane towards everyone regardless of status or financial background and treat people as they would be treated. There are people sitting outside the hospital for days not being able to see their children because of an ignorant uncaring security guard, same people at risk of never seeing their kids again. The level of concern by the nurses on duty is even more appalling as all they do on a night shift is huddle around a table gossiping and reprimanding parents and family members for caring. I hope I never have the misfortune of having to ever visit this establishment again.
We are completely blown away by the ICU team and theatre doctors at Red Cross. We are truly blessed to have a facility like this taking care of our little ones in times of ill health. Special thanks to Prof Brooks and Drs Brink, Grebe, Arends, Andrea and the rest of the huge team that assisted today 5/11/2022 in removing a blockage from our sons lung. Thank you isn’t enough
Africa's top children hospital and one of the best in the world. Whilst we have been fortunate to not have had any illness befall our daughters, we've known several people whose children was treated or hospitalised here. And all of them raved about the experience from admission to treatment by doctors and nurses. This hospital has certainly changed the lives of many, and one can only salute all for their contributions in providing and ensuring top class medical treatment for children.
I rushed to Trauma Unit with my daughter on Thursday night 03-11-2022 and was assited immediately by the 2 amazing nurses on duty along with Dr De Kock. Was back at the Outpatient Clinic on Monday 07-11-2022, the wait was a bit long, however the help received was great. Thank you very much to all the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at RXH
Excellent service the best in south Africa i don't know how to thank this hospital ,words can't explain what you ment for me and my son .if I'm in a position to nominate an institution for a big donation it would be Red cross .keep up the good work much appreciated .
Stayed here for months when I was little due to a car accident. I don't remember much but i know I had so much fun with the other kids in my ward. It felt like a second home
Oh so this hospital really exist!!?? Iam here cause i was reading the prose lesson for my English exam its called "in celebration of being alive" it's author is dr.christian barnard... it's a story of some crippled boys driving an unattended trolly... anyway it's quite a good story
Lets not go all bad on this one. As for the fact that this is not a private hospital there will always be only so much that can be expected. The trauma ward was kept clean and neat in most areas. Some improvement is always possible no matter where you go. I would fully suggest they start using a better smelling disinfectant. All and i mean all nurses and doctors were very pleasant and good towards us baring in mind the amount of children that needed to be taken care of. All staff was friendly and helpfull. Management could improve on a few things but yet again i guess there is only so much time in a day and so much more children in need of medical assistance. I would like to thank all the nurses doctors and staff for making our unplanned stay as comfortable as possible. Rather than having a bad word regarding this hospital think of what you can do to assist in the much needed help of this hospital. This hospital has the ability to be better than most private hospitals i have been to. They are defnitely the best government hospital i had to visit.
