Sandton Oncology

My wife has been seeing Dr Chan for 12months. Thankfully all okay. We would like to express our thanks to Dr Chan and all the wonderful staff at Sandton Oncology. From the receptionist to the head of Oncology we were treated with love and understanding. What a wonderful group of people.

My family member ended up in emergency hospital due to their lack of care, urgency and compassion. Billing is another disaster, they will try bill you for medication and extra treatments that you haven't received or even authorized.

This experience is not personal but is reported to me by a friend. Dr Chang is aloof, never makes eye contact & does not instil confidence.

Terrible experience with this place, and I haven't even stepped foot in their doors! One of their doctors who I saw at another establishment was emotionally abusive. When I asked to be moved to Dr Tabane at Sandton Oncology, she refused to see me because, according to the receptionist, Dr Tabane thinks I am "under the best care" with her emotionally abusive colleague. I.e. She doesn't want to rock the boat. Additionally, before I had decided to move to another doctor, I phoned Sandton Oncology to try get hold of my doc for a pain medication script. No one returned my call, as promised. What do patients do in an emergency?? This seems to be the norm for the place: terrible communication and lack of care and respect for patients. Case in point: the passive-aggressive secretary, who, among other things, rarely responds to her emails and who took 6 weeks to assist me with an admin matter that she said would take 3 - 4 weeks. I have to agree with the other reviews that say that this place doesn't care about the people they serve. There are good oncology practices in Jhb. This is not one of them.

Lack of care, compassion and communication. My mother was treated at this clinic and often felt she was being a nuisance if she contacted the clinic due to possible side effects of chemo or infections. The website claims they supply follow-up care and psycho social support. Completely untrue and this caused my mother massive anxiety. Lack of communication for appointments and printed information sheets from google to give her information. When she passed the clinic was informed but a few days later my sister received a call to ask when my mother was for her appointment. As a family we are all disappointed by this terribly run clinic.

Can never get hold of the doctor's. They always run late and never communicate either you. Hope one day they are patient' snd are treated with the same disdain

Good evening,we have tried numerous times to get hold of the Oncologist but clearly there is no compasion or empathy,my father inlaw is undergoing treatment for cancer and is extremely ill,we just need advise but nobody bothers to contact us,clearly another Dr that just in it for the money.Are there no Dr that have any ethics and care for the patient,its all about money,you should be ashamed.

I have a family member currently going to treatment there. I feel similar views from some of the other reviews here - that the person in question is "just another cancer patient". I haven't really seen or felt any warmth or empathy from the staff regardless of the extent of the severity of the cases, which is quite sad. The building itself is well presented and clean with different departments for different treatments and cancer types but that's just it really - it's just a building. I feel the reviews would improve if there was that much more caring extended by the staff of the venue.
