Reviews
There are two very different reviews to be made. First, the wine estate and wine tasting. Both were excellent, the winery is very nice and well kept. The guys in the tasting room were fantastic - engaging and full of enthusiasm about the estate wines and wine making in general. I would certainly recommend a visit on this basis. The restaurant by contrast was nothing to be enthusiastic about, hence the overall 3 stars. The food was standard Cattle Baron Food and if that is to your taste you will enjoy it. It was wrong in my view that they would not allow us to have glass of tap water, even though we had ordered a bottle of wine, instead basically coercing us to purchase a bottle of fizzy water not fitting with their sustainability message at a cost of close to R50 when all we wanted was a quick glass of water before our wine . The service was average. We had to get our own napkins from another table and those had holes in them …. This is a good wine estate but would do a whole lot better with a good quality restaurant .
I wanted to have my son's wedding there next year. We spoke to Denver who gave us very good service. We decided to have drinks there to discuss the wedding plans. We were 5 people..so my son took a chair from the other table because there was only tables set for 4 and long tables. Simon came and asked my adult son to get up cause he need the chair. He gave my son exactly the same chair from another table.. then he came back with an old chair he got from the backroom and ask my son to get up and sit on that chair. It's here where I put my foot down and tell him how can he treat his customers like that! He told me he don't want his setting to be messed up and they are just perfectionists. He did not apologize..but keep on telling us he did not do anything wrong. When I told him I'm putting a review on he apologized. But according to him he did not do anything wrong. I will definitely not be back and we are looking for another wedding venue. I couldn't believe they are treating paying customers like that! They wouldn't see us again.
Nothing like a good red wine with a Medium rare steak. Really enjoyed my meal and the atmosphere by the fire was romantic. The tables are well-kept and well-presented. Staff is quick and ready to serve.
Although the wine was good, there was little to no interaction from the guy that presented it. He explained how the wines were made, but didn’t explain how to actually taste it or why and how it pairs with the chocolate. Also - the chocolates need to be re-looked … definitely not the best quality chocolate. Tried to go to the restaurant afterwards only to be told they are closed for a stock take. Sorry - definitely won’t be back.
Beautiful farm. Wide variety of wines. Can do a 6 wine for R65 or 8 wines for R85 tasting. Also 4 wines and chocolate or biltong pairing for R110. My favourite was the Guinea fowl chenin blanc.
Close to home, hidden gem. We ordered food from Cattle baron which is next door, spent the entire afternoon here, sun was out and it was mid week, we truly enjoyed ourselves.
Very good wines and nice place to visit for wine tasting. There is also a good restaurant on the premises that serves great steaks. Worthwhile visiting and I can recommend their wines.
Good farm, nice surprise to see wildlife as you drive in. We did the biltong pairing, I am not a fan of the wine from the area but it was pretty decent. The poor guy serving us was clearly over worked but very helpful and attentive
Great ambiance, friendly and efficient service and the food was fantastic. Would highly recommend
What a wonderful place to eat at!!! Service is always attentive, but not overbearing. The food is really good, the wine list is good, and the views magnificent! Which is why we keep going back...
