We wanted to try something different than the usual Jhb and Pretoria outings and ended up at Stonehaven on Vaal. What a lovely surprise. We were greeted in such a welcoming manner on arrival and made to feel at home immediately. They have a great restaurant with some comfortable seating inside and much more outside. Outside is especially nice for those that have children. The waiter that served us was very friendly and made sure we were looked after. The meals were delicious. The portions are very generous. Our choices were garlic snails, Ribs and Chicken wings. All can be recommended as great choices. They have a good assortment of wines available and even have some sweet wines which we love and which every other establishment seem to forget about. If you enjoy whisky, they have about 30 to choose from. We didn't have space for dessert, but the milkshake was great. Once you have indulged in all that the restaurant has to offer then you can you can take a relaxing river cruise on their boat for R120 per adult. Weekends and public holidays only. The boat has a cash bar and the round trip is just less than an hour. Thanks to Stonehaven and all the staff for a relaxing outing.
Great venue with a nautical theme. Cozy in the bar area. The food was great and served hot. Only gripe was the service was a little slow. However, could be due to short staff on a public holiday. Parking: Elderly car guards usher you in and keep an eye on your vehicle. Please tip our senior citizens
If I could’ve given 10 stars to Stonehaven, I would’ve!! We were treated royally - from the reserved parking for our large bunch of motorbikes to the friendly welcome at the gate, to the personalized welcome signs, to our very own function room - everything was fantastic. Not to mention the food and the service which was amazing. Our waitress was awesome!! We’ll definitely be back!
The place is absolutely stunning, right on the banks of the Vaal River. They have a very cozy, "vintage" little cottage above the restaurant, which we stayed in over night and we simply loved it. The service, however, leaves much to be desired. We had breakfast on the Spirit of Jen, and the service there was flawless. We had a late lunch later on, and the experience was disappointing. The forks were dirty, but they replaced them immediately. Then my steak that I asked to be medium rare, was completely overdone. They took it away with my cutlery, and I had to wait another half hour; and when I finally got my food the way I had asked, I had no cutlery. Our waiter was nowhere to be found and we had to ask another waiter for cutlery, who also took her own time to bring it. Upon paying the bill, we asked for toothpicks, which we never received. We ended up leaving without it. We went back for breakfast the next morning and there were just a few other diners, as the morning rush hasn't started yet, we waited for 15 minutes to be attended to and a further 50 minutes for our food. My order was wrong, but they fixed that very fast. Getting our waiters attention though was a difficult task. I tried to comment on my review, but could not so I just edited and continued to type at the bottom of the original review. I received a whatsapp and shortly after a phone call from the manager, Fabienne; who followed up on my review. She apologized and undertook to look into my complaints. Thank you Fabienne. Kid-friendliness: It's very kid friendly, with various activities for the kids to do. There's also a cute "live-size" dollhouse.
Awesome place to go and visit. Parking area very secured and safe. Good place to take your family and kids. Went for lunch, the waiter Katlego was very professional with his service. Food was prepared quick and fresh. Had the Rump and calamari combo a must have after lunch went on a boat cruise. Once again it's proven that this place is a must go. Thanks to Janna on the cruise, making it a awesome trip, very friendly. Pricing not bad for a days outing. Keep it up Stonehaven and crue. Such an awesome place to celebrate a birthday or a launch, or just spend a day on the lawn under gazebos. Friendly staff. Amazing food! Book a trip on a boat and go for cruise on the Vaal. Stunning!!
Had a shepherd’s pie for St. Paddy’s Day, followed by an Oreo milkshake. Stonehaven always has a great vibe with friendly staff. I’ve been going there for years and so always enjoy a revisit. Relatively well priced with really good food. Stonehaven often has great events too. I definitely recommend Stonehaven if you’ve never been there.
Loved the atmosphere. Service was a bit slow but the place was extremely busy so it's justified. Chicken and steak in combo meal was way overdone but the ribs and chips was finger licking good. I loved loved loved how they treated our Doggy. I have yet to meet another place that caters and accommodate our pet like this one. Well done Stonehaven. We had a great day. The food was not that great not many choices provided but they are warm just too much salt on the meat and the meat was spicy. The music was not very engaging, another improvement they could add names on the dessert menu. The atmosphere is incredibly people are cheerful.Food: 1/5
Great place to escape the hum drum of Joburg and relax on the bank of the Vaal River.Food: 4/5
