Tala Private Game Reserve

A really convenient game reserve just an hour from Durban. The dirt roads within the reserve are easily handled by a small city car, with some care. Lots of antelope, some giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, hippos in the dam not obvious: look for the the nostrils peeking out just above the surface, lots of birds, and great rhino views. Lacklustre, disinterested service from reception and when calling in to book a game drive, restaurant at main reception not operating and reception did not advise us of this. The alternative restaurant was at the opposite end of the reserve, and the chef was not able to offer more than sandwiches "due to stock-take". Poor show compared to previous visit. Please don't continue to slip

The reserve was great, saw lots of wildlife. Signage was not great throughout. Some roads I couldn't navigate as you need a 4x4. We stopped for a burger but it was not good. Food came cold and patty was dry. Staff were very pleasant. Its a pity that the Aloe restaurant has been closed. We had previously eaten there and the food was great.

Good game reserve to visit with a wide array of animals on view. Beautiful eating place with a wonderful pool and entertainment area to chill. Rhinos, kudus, wildebeest, giraffes , hippos, birds ‍, and so much more to see at this reserve. Give it a try if you haven't done so by now.Hotel highlightsGreat value

Wonderful wildlife. The picnic area has a stunning pool so bring swimwear! Roads are pretty bad, right now you will need full size SUV or bakkie/ truck to have enough clearance to get around.

I was there to celebrate my birthday. Upon arrival all we sensed was that time was a issue where staff needed to knock off and nothing was available after the kitchen closed. Your pics are nothing that we see when we get there. There is a big wrong impression given here. We were told we cannot go to the other restaurant and pool as we had kids and they have not made accommodations for their safety. Who does that. We expected the full Monty considering the price we paid. No tvs...lounge area was a joke.. there should be some sort of family games. Possible a games room if this is where the kids have to be. We found ourselves confined to our rooms with nothing to do. A darts board, pool table or table tennis would be welcomed. The game drive was good and enjoyable. Just need more transparency of what is expected when it comes to the accommodation.

Beautiful Animals all in a small area, got to see giraffe Buffalo rhino and a bunch of other beautiful wildlife. Friendly staff at the restaurant, not to mention and outside shower in the rooms. Great experience will definitely come back

I must apologise for my initial review...I intended to do a 5* rating. I love going to Tala, it's a small intimate game park. Their picnic area is amazing, clean and they have great braai areas erected around the picnic area. The abloutions are clean and well serviced. I see also now they have signs warning people not to get out of their car when in the game reserve area, which is a good thing, because even though they don't have the lion's etc, one can never predict an animal's behaviour. Loved the giraffe's!!!

This excursion was beyond my wildest dreams. Started to rain on our way there and chucked it down as we arrived. Had no mack or umbrella. Then we got on the trucks and the sun came out. I could not have chosen a better safari to start with. I have hundreds of pictures, so sorry if there are too many for you. Visiting Durban, then this is a must see. Noteworthy details: Awesome

Excellent day outing mid way between Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Being only 3000 hectare your guaranteed to see wildlife. It's advisable to do the game drive as you are not restricted to the main roads and the guides are very knowledgeable and get you close to the animals. .Service: 4/5
