Description

The Barracks (so named as the property was used as barracks during the Anglo-Boer War) was built in 1851 and substantially renovated in 2004. The original building, which is now our family unit, was soon augmented by the main house as the owner, David Arnot, was a prolific breeder of children and needed plenty of accommodation to house his large family.

The comfortable and spacious Colesberg Accommodation has double rooms, all with private access, have their own bathrooms (each with a bath and separate shower) and private patios. They are all fully air-conditioned to ensure a comfortable stay no matter what the season is. All rooms have TV’s with M Net (or any other channel from the DSTV bouquet).

We also have a large family unit with its own private courtyard shaded by a large oak tree and grape vines. This unit is also ideal for guests travelling with dogs. A further unit, which is ideal for pets, has a self-catering option, (although everyone so far has dined in the main dining room!) and a private courtyard suitable for cats and small dogs.

One of our favorite stays in Colesberg to date. Warm reception, Safe parking, Spacious room with extra space for relaxing on a little lounge set in the room or an outside patio table area. Beautiful garden. Refreshments and toiletries in the room too. They have a quaint little bar and restaurant area, where we had breakfast prepared by the host - delicious. We walked up the road to the restaurant for dinner. Will definitely visit there again.
Stayed over to break up the trip to Joburg. It gave us an opportunity to explore the town of Colesberg with a morning walk before breakfast, which was great considering another day of driving. The owner contacted us a couple of times during the day to check in on our arrival and advise about load shedding expected, which was thoughtful and in this day and age - the kind of service that makes a difference. Room was spacious and comfortable, with a lovely en suite, and we certainly enjoy places of character, with old decor and preserved fixtures and fittings.
Thank you to Mike and Annelie for your warm hospitality. Perfect place for a stopover between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Clean rooms, super comfortable bed and an excellent breakfast. We will definitely visit again and recommend to all our friends and family!Rooms: 5/5
I enjoy staying here with the fur kids. They have an enclosed yard to explore and the room is big with a huge bed and 2 singles. Aircon and fans help in the heat if Escom plays ball. A kettle for coffee and bar fridge to keep things cool. A top sheet for the bed was very welcome. Thanks Annelie and Mike.
This is just an amazing place. Due to traffic we arrived late. But were welcomed with warmth and amazing food. The dinner I ordered was out of this world. Really the most amazing lamb chops I've ever had. The room was stunning. It was warm and cozy even though it was freezing outside. Our cats felt safe and we slept like logs. Excellent customer service, excellent rooms and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
We were made to feel most welcome. The room was comfortable and clean. A lot of research had gone into providing the history of the Barracks which made very interesting reading.Rooms: 4/5
Thank you for a lovely overnight stay. Fantastically located not far off the highway, in the quiet streets of Colsburg and walking distance to the best restaurant , Inni Kraal. The rooms where beautifully prepped with the heater and the SA cricket on. In the morning a delicious full cold and hot breakfast! Looking forward to returning when we next travel through with our dogs!
we arrived late as traffic was horrific as trucks kept us to a speed of sometimes only 80 km an hour … we arrived @ 10.30 pm way past closing time for reception and found our pet friendly cottage cozy , electric blankets. immaculate , car safe behind huge gate & our dinner was kept hot and was so yummy after 8 1/2 hours on the road ! thank you to the owners who were friendly helpful & caring !
A wonderful little spot to stay over or spend a couple of days at. The accomodation is perfect, very comfy and spotless. Surrounded by a picturesque little garden and quaint streets.Rooms: 5/5
