I am happy to say that this place is one of the best tourist places I've ever been to. The service and food is spectacular. Highly recommend a good sit down you won't regret it.Rooms: 5/5
Windmill Farm, R47, top of Oliviershoek Pass, Bergville. We were on a family trip, having just left my one daughter in Bloemfontein and on our way to drop my other daughter in the Eastern Cape We needed to buy some snacks for the road and to use the toilets. When we stopped at this establishment in Bergville,we were astounded at his beauty. The view of the Drakensburg was stunning. The grounds were so beautifully kept and I was amused at the boards with funny sayings on the walls. The toilets were spotless. The staff was fast and efficient and there was a large selection of snacks, eatables and cold drinks to choose from. What a stunning place. My only disappointment was that we could not stay longer but our wish is to return and to stay at one of their bungalows. 10 stars
our motorbike group of 9 stopped today at the Phatt Chef for tea/coffee and a snack. There was a nice fire in the dining area warming us, the service was friendly and fast, and the food and drink excellent. Well done,
If you happen to be visiting the Northern region of the Drakensberg Bergville area l highly recommend you stop-off or make the effort to visit what l would declare to be a "hidden gem" as you about to go over the Drakensberg mountains to enter the Free State. Many a visitor to this area will most likely turn into Little Switzerland on their trip up or down this mountain, little knowing that only a few kilometers further up this road as you are about to reach the summit of this road you will come across the Border Post and Phatt Chef Roadside Diner and B&B. Keep your eyes open and watch the road signs or you might miss it. But for those adventurous few who have gone searching for this gem, trust me you will not be disappointed. The owner's and their team of pleasant and friendly staff will cook up a meal that you will surely never forget. If l may recommend for those sweet lovers out there, this lady makes the best scones with homemade jam and cream this side of Everest - l mean the Drakensberg. What a beautiful place! And what lovely hospitality and service. The food is excellent and just the perfect stop over for a quick cup of good coffee and like l said, you must try their scones and homemade milk tart - it will force you to want to come back for more! Just a word of warning though, please be careful on that road as they have been working on a stretch of road for the last nearly two years that had completely been washed away. Yes, you can still travel safely over the mountain but just be careful especially at night and please travel slowly along that part of road. Besides that unfortunate obstacle which sadly by now as South Africans we seem to be getting use too, you will not be disappointed once you get to this oasis on the top of the mountain. May you have a blessed visit to one of South Africa's best world heritage sites - the Drakensberg mountains. We thought they were still busy with the renovations after we were told to be seated next to the little curio shop. Only after we completed our brunch in the unpleasant wind were we told that the renovations were in fact completed. After we asked. Customers were bunched outside to make the serving process easier. How lame is that! Why did we have to sit outside next to the curio shop under a tree in the wind? It makes no sense at all. The food was OK but it was totally too windy to fully enjoy our brunch. 2023-03-19. I still cannot make any sense of this approach. Why renovate if you are not willing to use the new facilities?
Great service from the new owner, Paul. Busy weekend with the Go2Berg cycle tour stop at Sterkfontein Dam. Nearby activities: Hike, mountain bike, running. Sterkfontein Dam.
Thanks Megan and Simon for your lovely stay of the new year and all your great recommendation - I could well working, enjoy and explore are area and the meals have great. It was great experience with you and the Phatt Chef friends of Johannesburg to have a traditional new year braai - I hope you will have good followers to manage this nice place as you have done. Thanks for all
Time for cake! We stopped at this establishment to enjoy some sweet treats. Location is perfect and right next to one of the best viewing areas of the Drakensberg. The variety of food/treats was great. The service was okey, maybe we just caught the cashier and waitron on a bad day. Will visit again.Service: 3/5
Stopped here for lunch on a trip. The food was good and the views were absolutely gorgeous. We also bought some of their homemade marmalade - highly recommend!Service: 5/5
OMW... A breaky MUST! The big breakfast here can't quite remember the name is divine! Yummy cappuccino's enjoyed on the wraparound verandah, while chatting to the resident geriatric pooch, was the perfect end to our vacay. The glorious old stone buildings transport you back to visions of what it must have been like when the post was operational. Last minute gifts, yumminess and needful things can be purchased at the little gift shop on the property.
