Perhaps one of the best kept secrets of Pretoria, must be this museum: Freedom Park is a modern venue which is a must see for every visitor to the Jacaranda city. Beautiful layout with contemporary history on display, it's one of my favourite museums. Please set aside a day to enjoy this treasure! Worth more than one visit.
We had our son's birthday party at the museum this past weekend. The Natural History Museum was the PERFECT party venue for our son and his friends. Everything, from the booking interaction, setup in the Discovery Centre, the guided tour and the excavations was perfectly organised. The children enjoyed Tebogo's tour, and she was able to present the museum to them on a level that they could appreciate. The feedback from all the parents was very positive, and I am sure many will visit you again. Most took the Gautrain, with the Gautrain zoo bus stopping at the museum. There's also safe parking on site.
To much to see in a short time. Youneed a full day. But everything was Wow! I want to go back to see everything
We did a museum sleepover and it was awesome experience. Guide was very knowledgeable. We loved how many different sections there were to explore. Beautiful, old building. Loved the section that allowed touching and exploring everything and the kids especially loved this. Great place to take the kids
A rather lovely museum in the heart of Pretoria with lots of exhibits. The guards and staff were all wonderful and very friendly, the parking was safe if a little hard to find at first. Unfortunately the state of the museum has clearly deteriorated, taxidermy animals are falling apart and many of the insects have turned to literal dust without being cleaned up. This is also not good for photography as the interior is very dimmly lit with most of the lights seeming to not work. For a family day out this is a good stop, many families were there when I visited and the children all seemed to be enjoying themselves a lot.
Was pleasantly surprised by this museum. We took a group of girls for a museum sleepover and the staff were wonderful. Everyone had a great time and learned many new things!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Great Museum to take kids to. Especially if they enjoy dinosaurs. The museum allows for some really large displays like the elephant in the entrance hall amd the whale outside in the museum garden. Sadly like many museums in South Africa, the displays displays have not kept up with the digitalisation and there are so many innovation that could be introduced to spice up the animals. That said, luckily being a natural history museum means that most of the displays don't really age. The museum is kept very tidy and the staff are friendly, helpful and especially engaging with kids. This is a great outing with the kids for a Saturday morning.
This is a great spot for parents to take their kids during the holidays. I would also recommend this spot to teachers for subjects like NS or Life Science as it covers everything from planet formation, single cell organisms, dinosaurs, soil, space, the ocean, all kinds of animals, Darwin’s theory of evolution and so much more. Certain parts were interactive which was pretty cool. The prices are so affordable for both adults and children. The sculptures are hyper realistic and so well done, I have to commend the artists for their attention to detail. I was in awe of the species and how accurately they were represented. The museum was not busy at all which is quite a shame. This is a hidden gem
Centrally located with ample parking nearby. This educational site offers hours of fun with their well curated exhibits. Suitable for all ages, there were several families out with their young children.
Today's morning excursion was to the old Transvaal museum of natural history - now the national museum of natural history. I last visited 30 years ago. It's even better now. Spotless. Beautiful presentation of thousands of exhibits. I was really impressed. Family loved it. We watched a custodian remove a heavy glass front to a bird display in the Austin Roberts hall of birds. He carefully dusted each bird / exhibit with a smallish paintbrush, then carefully vacuumed away all dust. Such care! Amazing,! The whole museum was utterly clean. Beautifully labelled. It was joyful to visit. Parking can be a problem and the museum is NOT wherelchair friendly. While in Pretoria it is a MUST visit
