My stay at Urban Park Apartments was bitter sweet. The location is ideal as it is far enough to avoid the hustle and bustle of the central Umhlanga CBD, but close enough to all the necessary amenities and conveniences. Sadly my check in was a disaster, as there was nobody available to meet us with the key. I wasn't even given the apartment number via several email communications which were sent in advance to avoid exactly this situation. The security guard called the building manager, who made it very clear that this was not his problem as the apartment was privately owned, however he was kind enough to phone the lady who kept the keys. She was not on site, and claimed that the telephone number given to her by the host to contact me was incorrect, so she left. Check in was after three pm. I arrived at 4 pm. I double checked my email, and the number I sent was correct. Was this an error by the host? I wonder. It took us at least an hour and a half before arrangements were made to let us in. The apartment was very clean, which made a pleasant welcome after the uncomfortable check in. It was small, but compact and tastefully decorated to avoid clutter and create space. I loved the curtains. Conveniently, each of the two bedrooms had its own en suite, but the second disaster was encountered that night when one of us got up to get a drink of water. There was a water leakage from the bathroom that trailed through the bedroom and into the kitchen....and he slipped on the wet floor, catching a chair to stabilise himself, thus avoiding what could have ended up being a major accident. The third problem was that there was no toilet rolls in either bathroom. I called the lady in charge and she pointed us to the ONE roll in a cupboard above the fridge. ONE toilet roll for four people in two bathrooms!! The final problem I encountered was the the very poor lighting. I understand the need to save electricity, but this was bad enough to warrant a complaint. This was followed by the breaking point....We went out and returned to the apartment at almost 11 pm to find that the prepaid electricity meter had run out of units and our electricity supply was about to die!!! Could it get any worse? Fortunately the lady in charge was still awake when I called, and she arranged for power to be purchased and restored. Might I also mention that although the apartment has wifi, there is no telephone reception, so, in order to make a phone call, one has to leave the apartment and walk around till a signal is acquired. Did I get value for the price I paid to stay at Urban Park apartments. No! Will I return there again! Definitely not!! PS. The lady in charge was kind, apologetic and accommodating despite my disturbed disposition, and calling her so late in the night, so I appreciated that at least. Conclusively, the location is certainly a winner, so, if the organisation can be given a little more attention I think the issues above can be ironed out and the owner can make quite a success of letting out that apartment. It all starts with respecting the fact that you are charging someone for a facility, so you need to have the courtesy to provide the serive you charge for. Oh...and at the very least...when offering a service like this, at the very basic, you need to have towels that smell fresh!!!
The staff was really nice. But the towels did not smell nice, it was broken and there was dark stains on it. There was no warm water the entire stay. The sheets smelt funny. Card key didn't want to work, we had to use a normal key. It did not feel very clean. I would not stay there again.
Booked here and staying here as I write this review as the ratings seemed pretty decent. The reception is quite nice. The pool is great however, would be better if it was heated. The rooms are not well maintained. The floor tiles are cracked and the shower has stains and mildew growing on the corners. The bed is okay and there is only 1 pillow provided. I'm kind of disappointed that it's not maintained as how it should be. The room view is obstructed with a huge wall and no sunlight comea through. Honestly wouldn't stay here and waiting to check out sadly
This place is the worst. Stay away! The first red flag was the elevator that has broken controls and sounded like it ran on diesel. There after it was the smelly stained hallway carpets. In the first room, the fridge was broken with water leaking all over. The AC wasn’t working, the couch was ripped. The room was also just dirty. The second room was better. The AC and fridge worked, but the tap water was blood red when first opened. The water stopped working on day 2. We then decided to bail on this place. The security guard was cool though.
The first room I got sent to had an air conditioning problem, got moved to another room which had a downgrade on the bathroom compared to the first. The TV remote didn't work in the 2nd room, the water coming out the tub was brown. The room wasn't cleaned on the 2nd day of my stay even though I left a sign on the door for it to be cleaned and I left at 8:30 and returned at 11:30, Had to go to reception to get them to clean the room. It only has 1 elevator for all 4 floors and you have to wait forever for it. Lady at reception made me feel like a pest for asking if the guy from maintenance was on his way after waiting 20 minutes for him to come check the aircon. Im sorry reception lady, I just drove for 3 hours to get to your hotel and I needed some hotel cooling.. shoulda brought my own fan from home. I should of known better.
Terrible service - when we initially got to the gate for the parking - there was no one available to open for us. we waited a while for someone to assist us. doors to the rooms dont open properly- you need to try multiple times and no cares to fix them... housekeeping had not cleaned before we got to the room... they decided to walk-in and change pillow cases while i was in the shower. There was no toilet paper, no toilet brush and no glasses. Would not recommend at all.
Had to wait for our rooms to be refreshed before we could check in. Room comfortable, needs some upgrading from years of wear especially the floors. Taps at hand basins are awful, water runs all over counter and not into basin. Staff very friendly. Beds comfortable.
We’ve stayed at this hotel before when it was under a different ‘flag’ and I am very disappointed this time around. Whilst the check-in staff were delightful, the room is shabby. There are no amenities- surely Covid isn’t a good enough reason to stop providing soap and shampoo! We booked breakfast but was told on arrival we would have to have breakfast elsewhere- this should have been mentioned when we booked. Not happy - won’t stray here again.
I'm giving this 3 stars 3 exactly the same rating as the hotel, amenities are poor asked to play table tennis and no balls were available, asked to play darts and no darts were available. I would have presumed that during the festive period more resources would be deployed but unfortunately not. Elevators are super slow. However on the brighter Side Room Service staff are very friendly.
