Vx Pharma is a privately owned clinical research and site management organisation in South Africa that provides comprehensive solutions for phase 1 to 4 clinical trials. Two dedicated research centres and an impressive network of collaborators enable us to offer a first-class service from patient recruitment to drug evaluation, including in- and outpatient facilities and an on-site clinical diagnostics laboratory. The main focus of Vx Pharma is delivering quality turnkey services that provide end-to-end solutions to our pharma, biotech and CRO clients.
The founders of Vx Pharma, Dr Mark Fyvie, Dr Gil Mahlati and Dr Paul Abrahams, all have academic and professional backgrounds in leading global institutions and companies. As one of few BBBEE service providers, we take pride in participating in South Africa’s clinical development outsourcing market through two major service offerings: Clinical Diagnostics Services and Clinical Trial Services.
Vx Pharma was registered in September 2009 and obtained its first round of venture funding in October 2010, through the generous seed investments of Ms Debra Barron and Ms Nontobeko Jacobs, who became minority shareholders.
Continuing the company’s expansion, Dr Fyvie joined forces with Dr Gil Mahlati and Dr Paul Abrahams in September 2011, making them major strategic shareholders in the business. In December 2011, acknowledging the company’s need to complete its infrastructure build and growth cycle, the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) of South Africa invested significant venture capital.
Vx Pharma partners with an on-site diagnostics laboratory — Motion Pathology Services — where all routine diagnostics, including screening and routine monitoring tests, can be done.
Vx Pharma acquired the Pretoria-based satellite site operations of Syzygy Clinical Research Services, a service provider that conducts clinical trials at a dedicated site, as well as through the network of practices known as The Intercare Group.
Vx Pharma aims to be South Africa’s leading BBBEE-accredited, clinical trials business that owns and operates its own research sites dedicated to offering end-to-end turnkey solutions, including clinical diagnostics, to help the global healthcare industry improve medical knowledge and bring better health to the world.
