I really enjoyed the museum and it's great to have it in a building with such a great history as the inn where Wellington established his HQ. There's a great chronology of the main players so you get a feel for their lives and careers. The artifacts themselves are well-labelled with most having an English translation too. The latest exhibition is on the Egypt campaign and I found it really interesting- there's a great video playing of the area which really sets the scene. In the entrance, there's a really good little shop too!
Unfortunately, this museum isn’t currently worth going to. If you want to see artifacts and already understand the context then it should be fine. If like me you want to learn something about Wellington and Waterloo, you will be disappointed. At this time it’s not possible to learn much here. Its undergoing renovation so hopefully this will change in the future.
Another interesting visit. There were very interesting original pieces! The voice guide was very informative. There was a Playmobil exposition when we were there. All children going crazy to see the impressive spectacle :- and of course some parents. The history of the building was also interesting te hear. On the other side of the road, behind the church, there is a parking.
Interesting museum in the building that Wellington used as his headquarters during The Battle of Waterloo. Would have rated higher if it wasn’t for the fact that a third of the rooms were closed for ‘maintenance’ and we were given no mention of this when we paid.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Situated in the center of Waterloo and part of the museum pass 1815, it's the museum where a refurbishment could help making it more interactive. The temporary exhibition although makes it worthwhile the visit. Never new the playmobil collection also covered Napoleonistic figurines...
The overview or the batlle itself is certenly good as starting point. Just across the touristic info office. I recommend the passaport ticket from the tourist office. Valid for a year to visit 4 historic spots.
I went for the playmobil exhibit on Napoleon. It was impressive! Did not see the Wellington museum itself though.
The museum and battlefield excelled in my expectations. A fantastic day out. So funny in the shop, they only sold Napoleon figures. Staff very friendly. All information in several languages. A must for anyone interested in Napoleonic wars.
Very cool museum build in the Duke of Wellingtons headquarters. Well worth a visit
Excellent... a proper old fashioned musseum with many interesting and original exhibits. The admission price includes an audio description device, which describes the contents of each numbered room in great detail. The buikding is over 300 years old, and was Wellingtons lodgings and headquarters before the battle. Well worth the admission price.
